Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks, Victoria Victoria Fort, P.E. Who mapped the Ragged Mountain Dam? 2. Whether or not RWSA would have any concerns about children playing near this area? There's some data in the attached Excel file, but I had some trouble understanding exactly what all the information meant. Thanks, J.T. From: Greg Harper Sent: Tuesday, January 15, 2013 8:47 AM To: Amanda Burbage; Damon Pettitt; Tex Weaver Cc: Johnathan Newberry; Amelia McCulley; Glenn Brooks; Mark Graham; George Shadman Subject: RE: Lake Albemarle Dam - Dam Break Inundation Data I gave Damon the draft spreadsheet which had been provided to me from DCR (attached); it includes the lat/long coordinates so that the dam locations can be mapped. I suggest that Damon create a shapefile of the dam locations with the name of the dam and the owners' names as attributes. We could wait for the "final"version of the spreadsheet but I don't really think there is going to be any difference. Perhaps this data can be added to the information which can be viewed by staff in webGIS so that people can reference it when they need to.Also, a map image (pdf or jpg)could be made available to everyone showing the locations, streams and lakes, and major roads, and other data to be used as an at-a-glance reference. I looked at the mapped inundation zones. This tells me that at least some of the consultants out there are producing (without being required to)geo-referenced maps. It also appears that the inundation zones (red, green, and magenta lines) correspond very closely with floodplains (light blue fill)—but with more precision related to topography. For those interested in this sort of thing, note that—for Lake Albemarle, anyway—there is little difference in the inundation zone corresponding to a probably maximum flood in the event that the dam breaches(red) and doesn't breach (green). This is just downstream of the lake. 2 ) / cr il'-' ( di'' '' 3 , c7;-Com• F., I.'./ ..r ._- - 4 - T \ .,. \ , 1 m ,' lr \ r ...si// - f From: Amanda Burbage Sent: Monday, January 14, 2013 5:00 PM To: Damon Pettitt; Tex Weaver Cc: Johnathan Newberry; Amelia McCulley; Greg Harper Subject: RE: Lake Albemarle Dam - Dam Break Inundation Data PMF is Probable Maximum Flood. Glad to hear they included the dam locations for Albemarle—is that info that can be exported into Excel format for us to develop our intake/tracking system? There are 3 different layers that came with this data. Sunny Day Breach, PMF w/o Breach, and PMF w/ Breach. Not sure what PMF means. I also got a spreadsheet showing the point locations for the Albemarle dams that came from DCR listing known dams located in Albemarle County. I can now map these. Can someone remind me what I should do with this stuff? Do you all want to come over and see the data and then we can discuss options? 3 Damon Pettitt,GISP GIS Coordinator I Albemarle County,VA (434)296-5823 ext.3231 I dpettitt@albemarle.org I www.albemarle.org/gds If you must print this email or any attachments, consider using the back of already printed paper. See what you can do with the data in the attached zip file. Apparently, all inundation mapping, whether it's for publicly or privately owned dams, is subject to DCR review& approval. DCR does not currently have a process in place to notify the locality when mapping is approved, but they are willing to let us know by email if we provide them with a point of contact. I have a call in to Rob VanLier, our regional DCR rep,to answer a few more questions about the process and will let you know what I hear from him. I recall dealing with the church during the Hyland Ridge off-site sewer installation in 2011. At that time we had to confirm adequate separation with the sewer and the existing well for the church. They now have sewer they can connect to, but they would probably need to pump, so they have elected not to. Following a capacity analysis of Route 20, VDOT determined that the special use permit proposal for a private school at the Broadus Wood Memorial Baptist Church site would not create the need for a left turn lane 2. Further, VDOT recommends that the church pursue all future opportunities to connect to Delphi:ink adjoining residential development (Cascadia) in order to consolidate entrances onto Route 20" Please let me know if that looks correct!
