Dear Ms. Nedostup:
The Department of Transportation, Charlottesville Residency Transportation and Land Use
Section, has reviewed the above referenced plan as submitted by Shimp Engineering, dated 17
September 2018, and offers the following comments:
L The proposed layout of Road A does not meet SSAR connectivity requirements as it does
not stub out to an adjacent parcel or have at least two external connections. If the
proposed right-of-way line is to be the new property line after acquisition from the
County this comment would be addressed.
2. A full turn lane warrant analysis will be required for the entrance on to Route 20.
3. Dependent on spacing to the nearest commercial entrance or intersection on Route 20,
which must be provided, an Access Management Exception may be required.
4. It is not clear from the application how many trips are expected for Road A in the future,
therefore the appropriate design classification has not been identified.
5. Bike lanes must be at least 5 feet in width when in conjunction with parallel parking.
6. Note that the subdivision/road plan must show conformance with the VDOT Road
Design Manual Appendices B(1) and F, as well as any other applicable standards,
regulations or other requirements.
Please provide two copies of the revised plan along with a comment response letter. If further

A VDOT Land Use Permit will be required prior to any work within the right-of-way. The
owner/developer must contact the Charlottesville Residency Transportation, and Land Use
Section at (434) 422-9399 for information pertaining to this process.
