Re: SDP-2018-00089- Pantops Corner - Final Site Plan
Dear Mr. Langille:
The Department of Transportation, Charlottesville Residency Transportation and Land Use
Section, has reviewed the above referenced plan as submitted by Shimp Engineering, P.C., dated
December 07, 2018 and offer the following comments.
Land Use
l . Please show mill and overlay on plans in accordance with WP-2 and show limits of mill
and overlay. Also please add the detail to the plans.
2. The mill and overlay will require work to centerline, so flagging operation and lane
closures will be necessary. Please provide an MOT plan in accordance with the Virginia
Work Area Protection Manual.
3. Please provide sight distance lines and profile for proposed entrances onto Routes 250
and 20 to plans.
4. Please provide drainage calculations for proposed storm water structure tying into the
existing structure, pre and post construction for adequacy of discharge. Also please plot
HGL on profiles.
5. Please see appendix F, page F-23, of the Road Design Manual for minimum spacing
standards for commercial entrances, intersections, median crossovers for collector and
principal arterial highways. As proposed, an access management exception is required
and will be reviewed under a separate submission.
6. Please see appendix F, page F-114, of the Road Design Manual for commercial entrances
channelization Island options (Right in/Right Out to prevent left turn Ingress and Egress).
The current design doesn't meet the design criteria, the length of the Island needs to be a
minimum of 50 ff.
Please provide two copies of the revised plan along with a comment response letter. If further

A VDOT Land Use Permit will be required prior to any work within the right of way. The
owner/developer must contact the Charlottesville Residency land Use Section at (434) 422-9399
for information pertaining to this process.
