HomeMy WebLinkAboutLOD201200003 Other 2013-12-30 (14)SUMMARY OF THE QUARRY ACTIVITY- ALBERENE SOAPSTONE COMPANY AT SERENE (TM126-31J AND ADJACENT PARCELS) - 2012-2013 DATE & DESCRIPTION/PURPOSE JANUARY 2012 — Reclaimed block "Climax" #1428 with Buster Tipton operating the 980 loader. Block was processed in Jan for a job to Erin's Marble & Granite — 5 slabs. Invoice paid 2/2/2012. Each mineral block is referred to by its quarry name because each has an intrinsic value based upon the essential and unique characteristics that are natural to the block from a specific quarry location. LATE FEBRUARY 2012 -- On at least two occasions soapstone blocks were reclaimed (removed from the stored inventory) and required processing prior to its intended use at the mill. 980 loader was used and dump truck to transport. The quarry area was disturbed from loader tires moving inventory to rearranged for better access (lined up) so individual blocks could be more easily picked up. (Later it was determined that a complaint was called into VDMME for the disturbance.) EARLY MARCH 2O12 (3-6-2012)- Mr. Laufer & Jo Higgins — Spoke to (Flynn) resident about drainage issues. Cedar trees on right side of access were damaged. A large area between the quarry holes and the stored inventory was disturbed by the loader tires when moving the stone blocks around and loading the truck for removal — photos were taken by Jo Higgins (copy attached with date stamp). Acknowledged that a complaint was called in to VDMME and Co. Zoning.. MAY 2012 - Dug drainage ditches to maintain roadways to stored inventory of extracted minerals at the Serene site. Seeding of disturbed areas was done as needed. Reclaimed "Climax" block to undergo the required processing at the plant. Carey Crane received 56.25 sf of slabs (sold 6/5/2012) and Empire Marble & Granite received 191.49sf of wire brushed stair treads and risers (sold 6/1/2012). 980 Loader was used. JULY 2012 — Reclaimed additional "Climax" block as required for "Goddard" job in Little Washington for VA Soapstone Co. A total of 409sf of "Climax" material was processed and sold on 7/17/12. 980 Loader was used. (Note: Climax blocks have been stored at Serene in past years as the location is close to the processing plant and there is easy access) SEPTEMBER 2012 - Mr. Laufer & 3 others - geologist visit. Parked at Quarry Hill Lane and walked in to the quarry area (to avoid disturbing the neighbors). Visit was for exploratory purposes "Climax" blocks #1537 and #604 for job Polly Davis-Doig. 5 slabs processed then sold on 82/2012. 980 Loader was used. MARCH 2O13 (3-23-13) -AEG (engineering geologists)visit. Approx. 20 people accompanied by Peter Farley to get feedback from multiple experts for mineral exploratory purposes. They parked at the North Gate (Flynn property) and walked into the quarry area. The North gate is a large iron gate installed by tha quarry personnel back in the 1960's. SEPTEMBER 2013 (9-6-2013) -ECS geologists visited for preliminary site inspection in order to prepare possible core -drilling samples. Accompanied by Michael Bloebaum and Peter Farley.Drove in the North gate and while working in the quarry area — someone locked the gate behind them which required knocking on the neighbors door to unlock the gate. OCTOBER 2013 -Quarry staff used the 980 loader to clear the roads from summer storm debris for better access to Serene mining locations Done by Dan Rhoades. This is a routine maintenance activity but necessary for the quarry operation.
