Suite A Charlottesville, VA 22902 RE: ARB -2019-3: UVA Community Credit Union signs (TMP 056A2-01-00-03000) Dear Lewis, We have received your above -referenced sign application. Your application was incomplete. We cannot begin review until the missing information is submitted and parts are revised. The following items were missing from your submittal and revisions requested: 1. Complete application form. Your application form is missing pages 3 and 5 (the latter is called Appendix B); the latter page is necessary to determine the length of the building frontage, which has not been supplied in your submission. Alternatively, you may revise sign drawing sheet 5 of 5 to name the length of the building frontage. Either way, this information must be supplied. 2. Wall sign mounting information. Explain the means by which the wall sign will be mounted to the building. 3. Material and color of the brick base of the monument sign. No information on the proposed brick (brand and color) has been provided. Please note that the approved brick building material is Lawrenceville #479 "Gunston;" confirm with the architects that this is the material chosen for the building. The same brick building material should be used for the brick base of the monument sign to visually tie the two together, and this information must be provided on the sign drawing. Please re -submit your sign drawings, including the missing information. (You may email the revised drawings to me at hmcmahon@albemarle.org or send the copies by U.S. mail.) If the missing items are received within 15 days of the date of this letter, we will proceed with review, and the submittal date will be adjusted according to the date of your resubmittal. If the missing items are not received within 15 days of the date of this letter, the application will be denied and a new fee will be required to submit a new application. If you have any questions about this process, feel free to contact me. Suite A Charlottesville, VA 22902 RE: ARB -2019-3: UVA Community Credit Union signs (TMP 056A2-01-00-03000) Dear Lewis, I have reviewed the above -noted sign applications. The following revisions are requested to make the proposal consistent with the Entrance Corridor Sign Guidelines. 1. The Entrance Corridor Sign Guidelines, Section III.9.d., state that a wall sign should be scaled to "allow[s] 6" of unoccupied space above and below the letters. Generally, 4" of clear space above, below, and to the sides of a channel letter sign is considered a minimum..." The drawing of the proposed wall sign on the building frontage provided on sheet 5 of 5 on your application package does not provide the sign area under the broken pediment, and as the drawing has not been produced to scale, it is not possible to verify that there is a minimum of 4" of clearance between any of the sign edges and the bottom of the cornice lining the broken pediment or the top of the soldier course lining the entry archway. Please verify (on the sign drawing, page 5 of 5) that there are at least 4" of clearance and preferably 6" of clearance between any edge of the sign and the edge of the pediment in which it is placed. 2. The Entrance Corridor Sign Guidelines, Section III.89.d., states that landscaping, particularly the use of groundcover, shrubs, and/or trees is requested "to integrate freestanding signs into the overall landscape development of the site." While trees exist on the site, this application does not propose any new landscaping to integrate the sign with its context. If the sign will be placed in a bed of mulch, this must be added to the sign drawings and landscaping must be provided. 3. Revise sheet 4 of 5 to state how many feet from the VDOT right-of-way the proposed monument sign is located. 4. Revise sheet 3 of 5 to include the standard lighting note: The level of illumination provided by the LED lights will not exceed the illumination produced by a single stroke of 30 milliamp (ma) neon. 5. Please add the latest revision date to the revised drawing sheets. Please respond by email within 15 days of the date of this letter indicating whether you will or will not proceed with these revisions. Your decision to make the revisions will suspend the 60 -day review period associated with your original submittal. If you choose to complete the revisions, please email the revised drawings to me. If you choose not to proceed with these revisions, staff will be unable to approve your application. Failure to respond to this letter shall be presumed to be a request to proceed to action on the application without further revisions. If you have any questions about this action, please contact me as soon as possible.
