Commissioner COMMONWEALTH of VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION 1601 Orange Road Cutpeper, Virginia 22701 February 11, 2019 County of Albemarle Department of Community Development 401 McIntire Road Charlottesville, VA 22902 Attn: Megan Nedostup Re: Southwood ZMA 2018-00003 Review #5 Dear Ms. Nedostup: The Department of Transportation, Charlottesville Residency Transportation and Land Use Section, has reviewed the above referenced study as submitted by Timmons Group, revised 7 January 2019, and offers the following comments: 1- The Department recommends that the TIA evaluate alternatives for addressing offsite transportation impacts. 2. The proposed typical sections call for 2'-6' buffer strips and 4'-8' sidewalks. As previously noted, sidewalk widths shall be 5 feet where adjacent to a buffer strip and 8 feet where adjacent to concrete curb, and buffers strips are to be a minimum of 3 feet (w/o trees). If further information is desired, please contact Justin Deel at 434-422-9894. A VDOT Land Use Permit will be required prior to any work within the right-of-way.
