Hi Tobey,
Yes, the revisions sufficiently address the changes requested on 11/21/18. Please find your CoA attached. I have
approved your sign permit for ARB review and passed it on to the next reviewer. When all reviewers have approved your
sign permit, you will be notified.
Thanks,

Heather,
The existing sign has been removed as of last week. Can you please look at the attached draft and
confirm that it falls within the standards you outlined previously?
Overall dimensions of the sign would be 25"H x 160"W. The font is Elephant and the color would be satin
black on 1/2" compressed board.
Thanks!
Tobey

Hi Tobey,
Thank you for sending a photograph of your wall sign in which the top of the 'b'
and the bottom of the 'y' in "Tobey's" have been shaved so as not to extend
above the cornice and below the sign band respectively (see "Sign mods"
attachment). While that alteration meets the Zoning Ordinance language that
prohibits signs extending above and below building walls, it does not address the
two ARB comments I sent to you in the letter dated November 21 (attached),
which are below:
1. Revise the size of the wall sign so that the entirety of all letters fall within the sign band area and provide at least 4"
of clearance between the bottom of the sign band and the bottom of the letters as well as at least 4" of clearance
between the top of the sign band and the top of the letters. Ensure that no letter extends above the cornice or below
the wall plane.
2. Vertically center the sign in the sign band.
The sign size has not been revised so that the entirety of all letters fall within the
sign band area (which is the white portion of the wall space; the red flashing at
the very top is coping, and not part of the sign band area) and provides at least
4" of clearance between the bottom of any portion of the sign (i.e., the
bottommost is the tail of the 'y') and the bottom of the sign band area as well as
4" of clearance between the top of any portion of the sign (i.e., the uppermost
are the top of the 'T' and the top of the 'b') and the top of the sign band area.
This can only be achieved with further reduction of the sign size or redesign of
the '*T,' 'b', and "y.'
Furthermore, the sign mounting rails and the letters have not been moved so that
the sign is vertically centered in the sign band area.
Therefore, this revision does not meet the Entrance Corridor Sign Guidelines or
the requested changes provided in the November 21 letter to you which is
attached to this email. I cannot approve this sign application until these requests
are met.

Hi Tobey,
Dropbox wants me to set up an account; is it possible for you to emails the
drawing(s) merely by email? If the files are too big, can you send them
separately? Please let me know if we can share these files in an alternate fashion.

Tobey said:
"Heather, Please forgive the delay in getting the sign alterations back
to you. Please take a look at the proposed modifications and let me
know if you need anything else. The letters are solid black and will fall
within the edges of the wall cornice. Thank you for your patience.

Heather,
I plan to make the modifications next week to comply with the ordinance. Should I send another pic/diagram with
revisions?
Thanks!

Hello T obey,
I have received and reviewed your sign application and changes are requested to make the sign comply with both the
Zoning Ordinance (Ch. 18, Section 4.15) and the Entrance Corridor Sign Guidelines. Please see the attached letter for
more detail.

Subject: Wall sign and ARB application
Hello Tobey,
I am replying to your telephone call/message from yesterday. Forgive me for not returning your call, but I thought it
would be easier to direct you to the applications you will need via email rather than spell them out during a telephone
conversation.
For your wall sign to be approved after -the -fact, you will still need to turn in a sign application that will be reviewed
both by Zoning staff for compliance with the Zoning Ordinance (Chapter 18, Section 4.15) and by ARB staff for
compliance with the Entrance Corridor Sign Guidelines. All of these forms can be found through the County's ARB
website: http://www.a1bemarie.org/dept orms.asp?department=cdsigns.
Please let me know if you have further questions.
