Hello Lauren,
If you are proposing external illumination for the logo/cabinet sign, you need to:
1. Show where the lighting fixture(s) will be mounted on the elevations
2. Provide manufacturer's cut sheets for the proposed light fixture(s)
3. Remove the note on page 7 about milliamps because that only applies to internal illumination
4. Add a note on page 7 that states: Each outdoor luminaire equipped with a lamp that emits 3,000 or more initial
lumens shall be a full cutoff luminaire and shall be arranged or shielded to reflect light away from adjoining
residential districts and away from adjacent roads. The spillover of lighting from luminaires onto public roads
and property in residential or rural areas zoning districts shall not exceed one-half footcandle.
I suggest you revisit the application and checklist for signs, especially section 3:
SECnON 3: ILLUMINATION REQUIREMENTS
A. If the nrolyused fJgn is to be illuminatrd, the applicant must proside thr folltMing:
L Electrical permit
L] Electrical schematic
L1 Tit location of proposed Iight fixtures idrntifled tin a plan andrar elevation
L Manuf ietur2r cut sheets desuibing illuminafii)n type, intensity, ,;tylc %hi-lding color. and height. All fighting mint
meet ordinance requirements us outhned in Section 4.17 of the Zoniz_g Ordin::nce-.
I equally encourage you to consider the outdoor lighting regulations in the Zoning Ordinance, Chapter 18, Section 4.17
as well as section 5 (pages 6-7); section 9e. (page 10); and section 10e. (page 15) of the Entrance Corridor Sign
Guidelines when selecting your external illumination. As a courtesy, I have attached the lighting guidelines checklist
which ARB staff uses to ensure that light fixtures in the EC comply with the lighting criteria (numbers 22-31) detailed in
the Entrance Corridor Design Guidelines. Not all of the criteria will apply to you, but pay careful attention to criteria #23,
24, 25, 26, 30 and 31.
Please let me know if you have questions before resubmitting.
Thanks,

Hello Lauren,
I have reviewed your sign application for Goodwill. Your proposal does not meet all of the criteria of the Northtown
Center Comprehensive Sign Plan, which was approved in February 2019 (see the attached CoA). Changes are requested
in order to meet the approved criteria; see the attached letter for more details.
Thanks,

RE: status of permit
Hello Lauren,
Your ARB application was received by ARB staff on 3/6/19. ARB policy is that staff has two weeks from the date of
receipt to review an application. In addition, ARB is one of several reviewers of the sign permit. ARB staff will not
approve your sign permit until the Certificate of Appropriateness is issued to you, which depends on the completeness
of your application and its fulfillment of all of the Entrance Corridor and Zoning Ordinance regulations relating to
signage. Again, that review can take up to two weeks from the date the application was received.
I will be in touch once I have reviewed your sign application.
Thanks,

Subject: status of permit
Hi Jennifer,
I am trying to get the status of a sign permit for Goodwill. I sent in the permit Feb 26th and the grand opening for
Goodwill is in 2 weeks. I emailed Jeffrey Baker yesterday but did not hear back. Here is the tracking number 62019-
00359. 1 tried to track it but for some reason the county application site is not working. Any help would be much
appreciated!
Thanks so much!

Hello, Bob.
Thanks for checking in on this project. It sounds like there remains some confusion about what
is required for the Northtown Center Comprehensive Sign Plan approval. I've attached the
August 6, 2018 ARB action letter and Heather's September email. Both provide direction on
how to obtain approval. I recommend that we (you, me, Heather, Nena, and your sign
company representative) meet to go over everything so that everyone involved understands
all that is required, so we can get this wrapped up. Please provide a few days and times that
your team will be available to meet here at the County Office Building and we'll let you know
which dates/times will work. In the meantime, please note the following:
1. 1 suggest you pursue a temporary wall sign for Goodwill to ensure that you will have
signage when the store opens. Application here. Information here.
2. Maximum allowable square footage is based on business frontage. You are showing
signs for three businesses, but the floor plan seems to show only two. If you provide
the business frontage for all three tenants, I will forward that information to our Zoning
permit reviewers and they'll let you know the maximum allowable sign area for each.
3. The roof color change, and any other changes to the building, require a separate application
and review by the ARB. In Part B of the a,)plication, check the box under "Review by the ARB"
for "Amendment to an approved Certificate of Appropriateness." Metal/color samples will be
required. As I've indicated previously, I don't think the blue is consistent with the other
building materials and colors in the shopping center, so it is not likely that I will recommend
approval to the ARB. The next submittal deadline is January 7 for a February 19 meeting.
4. Allowable logo colors will be determined by the approved Comprehensive Sign Plan.
I'll wait to hear from you on potential meeting times
Thanks.
Margaret

Subject: GOODWILL BUILDING C ELEVATIONS AND SIGN CONSTRUCTION DETAILS
Margaret:
We have completed a CSP plan that I think addresses all of the items you asked Nena to
provide upon review of her CSP application, which I have attached.
Gropen's plan (attached) shows channel letter dimensions and color possibilities. We are
requesting the colors specified to coordinate with the Goodwill Blue and a tenant prospect for
red. Also shown is the existing brown standing seam metal roofs painted Goodwill Blue.
The priority for Goodwill is to get there sign up between now and February to accommodate
their projected opening in early February. They have agreed to a white channel letter to
accommodate this schedule, but it is not there preference. They also will open with the no
change to the existing standing seam metal shed roof color, but also is not their preference.
What else do you need to to approve a CSP for this center and if an approval is possible to allow
for fabrication lead time for the signage.
If the timing for CSP approval is in mid to late January, can Goodwill submit a sign application
based on the existing Gander sign dimensions in white channel letters?
Can their logo use their logo colors?
Thank you very much for your assistance to accommodate this part of the Gander building
renovation.
Have a great Holiday Season!
