Hi Margaret,
I hope you are doing well. I've prepared the response to your questions in two parts. The first is samples and
clarifications that were dropped off at the Development Counter this afternoon. In this I provided the Nichiha Cedar
sample. The attached transmittal letter was also left, which clarified the color of aluminum cut out letters as detailed by
Gropen. Below is a complete summary of response and I've also attached the updated Photometric plans as requested:
1.Sample of Vintage Wood Nichiha product"Cedar" was dropped off at Community Development. This product will be
encased within a metal frame forweather protection as depicted on the detailed plans.
2. Cut out letters are to be "Brushed Natural Aluminum, with Satin Clear Coat" (no sample required).
3. In regards to the imagery, these two materials are intended to simulate the design inspiration from the Shenandoah
National Park stonework. The design image submitted with the application was to demonstrate this inspiration as a way
of paying respect and to build upon a more contemporary interpretation as we described in our zoning application.
4 No actual calculations were changed. The footcandles and photometric schedule were just checked with the 302
lumens input.
5 Notes removed. The,photometrics for the street lights are calculated at ground level.
Please let me know if you need any additional information. If you can also let me know next steps as we would like to
begin the fabrication of the sign due to the extent of time it takes to complete.

Dave,
The Nichiha sample would be helpful. I can probably do without the other samples with further clarification on the
drawings. I've completed my review and consolidated my comments:
1. Provide a sample of the Nichiha panel.
2. Identify on the drawings the color/finish of the aluminum letters.
3. The original submittal included images of Shenandoah National Park stonework. Were these images intended to
illustrate the sign bases or the decorative stone walls,or both? Please clarify the sign elevation and plan
drawings to further clarify the stone material.
4. Note 4 on the Roudabush &Gale November 29 comment response letter states that"the calculations on the
plans have been revised." Please clarify which calculations have changed.
1
5. A note on the street light pf.,,,,netric plans states that footcandles were.„:„culated at 3.5'above grade, and'-
that all lights will be bronze anodized."These notes make sense for the ground-mounted sign lights, but not for
the street lights. Illumination of the street lights must be calculated at ground level, and the street light cut
sheets indicate that black is the proposed finish. Please remove the notes from the streetlight sheets and
ensure that the street light photometrics are calculated at ground level.
Please submit a set of revised drawings addressing these'issues.
Thanks.
Margaret

Hi Margaret,
The only sample I have is the nichiha wood panel. Do you need metal and stone?
Gropen can get what you need.

Dave,
The cover letter states that color and material samples will be submitted by the architect. I haven't
received those samples yet.Are they still in process?
Thanks.

Hi Margaret,
I hope you are safe on this snowy day. I am sending the re-submittal response package as requested to
address the items you requested on your November 14, 2018 letter. Becuase this was combined with
the County engineering comments you may have a bit more than needed but this way you can see all
that is being addressed. Please let me know what else you need with this submittal. I am working on
the wording for each sign and can provide the final text in the next few weeks.
Thanks,
Dave Brockman

Hi Margaret,

I hope you are doing well. i nave these revised drawings that are ready tiring back to you. I've had
everyone work at the 11x17 size and we broke out the plans to larger size so they are more legible at
11x17.Would you like hard copies or an email/electronic version of these? I have all of your
comments addressed with this.
Thanks,

Dave,
I've reviewed the ARB applications for the OTV entrance signs and lighting. I have a few comments,
which I've copied below. They also appear in the formal comment letter, which is attached to this
message with a hard copy in the mail. Please note that I've requested that the landscape plan be
modified to show that existing wooded areas will not be impacted by the proposal. I've also made
this same comment for the WPO plan. If you have questions, please let me know.
1. Materials have been identified on the sign drawing, but colors have not. Please update the sign
drawing(Sheet A.1)to identify the proposed sign colors.
2. Color/material samples have not been provided. Please submit them for review.
3. The color/finish of the ground-mounted light fixture has not been identified. Please update the
cut sheet and/or sign drawings to indicate the color/finish for the ground-mounted sign lights.
4. The maximum lumens emitted by the ground-mounted fixtures is not indicated in the
submittal. An on-line chat with the light manufacturer indicated that the lamp emits 302
lumens. If your understanding is otherwise, please contact me.
5. Much of the information on the submitted drawings is too small to read, including the
photometric values. Please provide the drawings at a size that is scale-able and legible.
6. Clearly identify the property lines on both photometric plans.
7. On the photometric plan that identifies the street light locations, add information to clarify the
location of the illustrated street segment. (Is that the north end of the median at the Rt. 250
entrance in the lower right corner?)
8. On the landscape plan, show that existing wooded areas are not impacted by the proposed
development.
Thanks.
