Glossy abelia is a deciduous shrub, not an evergreen, that is non-native and has a mature height of 3-6' and a mature spread of 3-6'. At the scale of the landscape plan, it is too small to ascertain whether the spacing is appropriate. The Castle Spire blue holly is a broadleaf evergreen shrub, not an ornamental tree. It is also non-native, with a mature height of 5-12' and spread of 4-8'. 2-19-19 ARB Comment Review The Sweetbay Magnolia, which cannot be located on the landscape plan, is the only native species recommended and is a medium deciduous tree. It grows quickly, unlike the other two, and its mature height is 10'-30' and mature spread is 10'-30'; depending on where these are actually located, they may cause problems for the storm pipe. 9. Grading cannot occur in the drip lines of protected trees. The plan fails to show the four small shrubs that are higher up the slope, to the north, around topo line 464 and where the proposed fence will be. There are four lightly line -weighted circles shown on S6 in the approximate location of the existing shrubs on the ground, but they do not label them OR confusingly, they label them as "5-MV-New." Clarification and a site survey are needed. 18. Provide adequate tree protection fencing on future site See above. Tans submitted for review. Other notes: 1. Such trees should be at least 3 %2 inches caliper (measured 6 inches above the ground) and should be of a plant species common to the area. Such trees should be located at least every 35 feet on center. b. Flowering ornamental trees of a species common to the area should be interspersed among the trees required by the preceding paragraph.
