The variance would not be required had we been able to turn the unit 90° to run parallel with the present building, but this is not practical because of our existing fire sprinkler system and natural gas meter equipment which is also located along this side of the present building. The purpose of this new unit is to temporarily house our personnel function which must have easy access for possible new employees to apply for employment. In this location, there is an existing parking area directly across Route 660 . This is a temporary situation as far as the Murray Division of Arrow Hart, Inc. is concerned with a life of four years . At this time we expect to have better quarters by double decking part of the existing office area. Ruth Miller, Secretary Re : VA-74-08 Arrow Hart, Inc . , Murray Division Gentlemen: As a resident of Earlysville and a frequent user of State Route 660, I object to the granting of the variance requested by Arrow Hart , Inc . In view of the fact that the manufacturing plant occupies only a small portion of the plant site of 36 . 29 acres, I do not see how the Board can find "that the granting of such variance will alleviate a clearly demonstrable hard- ship approaching confiscation, as distinguished from a special privilege" required by Section 12-2-2 of the Zoning Ordinance . I realize it would be more convenient to management to have the personnel office out front where it could be easily found by new job applicants . The granting of a vari- ance for this reason would be a special privilege or conven- ience sought by the applicant . The fact is that the entire plant was originally built too close to the road. This situation is now made worse by the widening of the road in front of the plant . The Ray ' s Ford Road is still a scenic country highway and it should not be further spoiled by the granting of a variance which will permit an addition to an industrial building so close to the right-of-way.
