It is our understanding that the Board of
Zoning Appeals did not grant the variance requested by
the above company in respect to the 50 ft. sign setback.
The company is still in violation and the sign should be
removed.

Dear Mr . Kirtley :
This is to inform you that on August 19 , 1975 , during
the regular meeting of th., Albemarle COU1LLy Board UJ Zoning
Appeals , your application for VA-75-21 was approved with the
following condi '.i.ons :
1) that no part of the sign he closer to the right-of-way
than the power pole just behind the present sign location ;
2) a detailed sketch for a well designed rustic sign be
submitted to the Board so that they may consider the
schematic details of the sign limiting the sign to the
name and nature of the business , not to allow any arrow
or advertising material be placed on the sign ;
3) lhe sketch is to be submitted to the Board and present
s:i.gn be removed from premises within 60 days .

Dear Sir:
Many residents of this area have taken note of a
sign which is obviously in violation of our Albemarle
County sign ordinance. It is the sign for the Kirtley
Distributorship on Route 250 west, located at present
very close to the edge of the road.
%e understand that this firm is seeking a variance
from the sign ordinance to permit it to place this sign
within the required setback area on a permanent basis.
We are very much opposed to the granting of this
variance. This sign is unsightly where it is, it is
confusing to have signs so close to the road, and it
is to prevent such situations that the county ordinance
was adopted. We supported your requirement that S-K Motors
move its signs to bantam with the ordinance. We hope
you will adopt a consistent stand and require conformity
to the sign. ordinance in this area of increasing commer-
cial activity.
apereciate the need of this firm to make known
its whereabouts for reasons of informing persons making
deliveries and picking up merchandise. We think this
sign, a really unnecessarily large one any,qay, has no .
need to have a variance to permit it to remain where it
is in a situation where there are other business firms
and a confusing cluster of signs already, even tho they
are conforming. Its purpose can be served by locating
the sign where it will conform to our ordinance.
