RE: ARB-2019-29: Daly's Rent All
Dear Sue,
We have received the above -noted application for a county -wide Certificate of Appropriateness. The following revisions are requested
to make the proposal consistent with the design criteria that apply to the County -wide Certificate.
I . Material and color samples have been provided, but the architectural elevations do not indicate the locations for each color. Please
provide for review revised elevations that clarify color distribution. Provide a material/color legend on the architectural drawing.
Indicate material type, manufacturer, color name, color number.
2. At 1 I" x 17", parts of the architectural drawings are difficult to read. Provide a larger size drawing at a standard architectural
scale.
3. Provide the west elevation on the architectural drawing.
4. Light levels exceed the guidelines recommendations. Revise the lighting plan to limit footcandles to a maximum of 20.
5. Guidelines require that Iights have the appearance of white light with a warm soft glow. Please revise the lighting spec from
5000k to either 3000K or 4000K.
6. Taxus Cuspidata is not a native plant. It is recommended that it be replaced with a locally native plant. If Taxus Cuspidata is
retained, revise the plant schedule to include the proposed cultivar.
7. For improved plant health, it is recommended that the number of proposed trees and shrubs be limited to 25% of the total
proposed for that plant type. For example, 24 trees are proposed and it is recommended that 3 of the 9 American Beech be
replaced with an alternate tree (25% of 24 = 6 trees). Similarly, a single shrub species (Ilex Crenata) is proposed; introducing
additional shrub species would be appropriate.
Within 15 days of the date of this letter, please send me a letter (by email is acceptable) indicating whether you will or will not
proceed with these revisions. If you choose not to proceed with these revisions, staff will be unable to approve your application. If you
choose to proceed with the revisions, please forward me one set of revised drawings together with a memo summarizing the revisions
you've made. Your decision to make the revisions will suspend the 60-day review period associated with your original submittal.
However, I expect to complete the review of your revised proposal within 2 weeks of your re -submittal.
If you have any questions about this action, please contact me as soon as possible. I look forward to receiving your revisions and
completing this review with an approval letter.
