There are al- ready two (2) approved freestanding signs located on the property; one is the 96 square foot sign for Albemarle Square Shopping Center, allowed by right under Section 15A-6-1 (b) & (d) and the second is a freestanding sign for Shoney's as approved by Variance #VA-76-17. Proposed Variance The applicant is requesting one freestanding sign in the aggregate area of 25 square feet used in connection with carry-out business. Zoning Ordinance Requirements Section 15A-6-1 of the Zoning Ordinance allows not more than two free- standing signs on any one lot or premises, in the aggregate area of 100 square feet. Staff Recommendation This carry-out activity seems to be a secondary use, the main being a sit down restaurant. The proposed sign, however, is of a moderate size (25 square feet) .
