Such a rehearing is requested in the event research on the economics of locating the General Motors sign identifying this business proves to be unbearable. We have requested a meeting with General Motors representatives to determine what action they are willing to take and what costs are involved to first move our present sign and subsequent- ly replace with another. The lot is on Route 29, southbound lane. Proposed Variance Relief from Section 15A-6-1 to allow a greater aggregate area for the allowed two freestanding signs one of which needs a height variance of 5 feet. The increase area requested is 84.5 feet. The hardship claimed is the cost of compliance with the county requirements. The signs were constructed to meet the city ordinance requirements. Ordinance Requirement 15A-6-1 of the B-1 zone allows for two freestanding signs per parcel not to exceed an aggregate area of 100 feet. Staff Comment The county has no reciprocal agreement to allow city approved signs to be located in the county. The applicant invested in the signs through the national dealership. The staff recommends a temporary variance rather than a permanent variance until such reasonable time the national dealership can supply conforming signs. This shall allow the local dealer advertisement which he needs.
