Part D: Partial Guidelines for Lighting Design
NOTE: The information that follows is a condensed version of the guidelines and criteria that
apply to lighting design in the Entrance Corridors. For complete information go to:
www.albemarle.org.
• Light should be contained on the site, should not spill over onto adjacent properties or streets, and
should be shielded, recessed or flush-mounted to eliminate glare. Planting may be required to reduce
impacts of glare.
• Fixtures and poles should have a dark brown, dark bronze or black finish. Other dark colors, if
coordinated with the building (for example, hunter green), may be approved.
• Pole height shall be compatible with building height. Typically, height shall not exceed 20'. 15' is
appropriate for most uses.
• Height and intensity of rooftop lights shall be minimized to the greatest extent possible. Light shall not
spill outside the walls of the structure.
• Special restrictions (for example, the use of dimmers for night-time illumination) may be applied to
LED lighting to ensure that the intensity of the illumination is maintained at appropriate levels.
• Additional restrictions apply to lighting intended for decorative effect.
• Consult the Entrance Corridor Design Guidelines for more information.

New Parking Lot Light's for North Lot
The North Parking Lot has nineteen (19) parking spaces with, "NO
PARKING LOT LIGHT's.
Our Plan is to install two (2) Parking Lot light poles, to match the
existing parking lot light pole's, in the front of the American Legion Post
Home, at 3025 Louisa Road, Keswick, Va 22947. Fronting on State Route 22.
We will remove the two existing Parking lot light pole "Head's, at the
back of the building, and replace these two (2) head's with two (2),
Lumenosity Shoebox- 175 heads. We will dig a trench along the curb, from the
three (3) existing parking lot light's, in from of the Post Home, to extend the
power source to the two (2) new light poles, and install to new light pole's, "J"
bolt mounted in concrete. These two (2) new pole's will be spaced the same
distance apart, as the existing pole's in front of the Post Home. The reason we
moved the two (2) Light Fixture Head's, from the back of the Post Home, is
because these Fixture Head's, are no longer available for purchase, And we
want all of the Light Poles on State Route 22 to be the same. The two (2) New
Shoebox Head's, can't be seen from State Route 22.
This change is for Security and Safety, As the Albemarle Police
Department has recommended, that we Light this parking Lot many times
over the past 3 year's. at our Monthly meeting's and other event's, This lot is
usually full. We don't anything to happen to any of our Guest who park in this
lot.
Directly in front of our American Legion Post #74 Home, is three (3) flag
pole's on the left side of the building. On the right side is a row of small
Shrub's, therefore when guest and member's exit there vechicles, they have to
walk out in the "Drive Lane" to get to the front step's and porch. This is a "Fire
and Safety Hazard", As these small shrub's are full of Cigarette butt's, these
Small Shrub's are against the wood front porch, We have had to put out small
fires there in the past.
We want to remove these Small Shrub's, and pour a concrete sidewalk.
This may prevent a front porch fire, and Safety for our older guest.
We are Proud Veteran's, and Proud of our American Legion Post #74
Home. We have approximately 750 active member's, War Veteran's.
Thank You
House Chairman

Information
The Shoebox-175 pole mount fixture from Lumenosity represents a breakthrough in LED technology. We
are so confident in our design that we offer a 5-year Unconditional Warranty for the unit.
The fixture is based on cutting-edge LED technology from the world's most advanced suppliers, and it offers
far superior temperature/lifetime performance ratings than any other manufacturer currently available. This
powerful combination allows for a much wider safety margin for long life, more light, more useable lumens and
less operational costs than any other comparable fixture available.
In addition to superior LED technology, the unit has surge protection built into its power supply, as well as
surge protection across the entire luminaire. Additionally, the fixture is designed in such a manner that even if a
single LED were to fail, the rest of the fixture would continue to operate and provide light. Try getting that
feature from the competition!

Why LED Techology?
LED technology has made tremendous leaps and bounds over the past few years. Their ever-falling prices of
equipment, maintenance-free life, and low operational costs are all primary benefits of this new technology. In
addition to these benefits, LED fixtures offer a host of environmental benefits, including:
• More Lumens per dollar in operation, thus conserving electricity and cost!
• Long lifetime, meaning less waste in the local landfill (70,000 hours)
• Ideal for hostile environments because there is no glass bulb to break!
• No mercury or toxic materials contained in the bulbs, unlike fluorescent
• Instant start-up across a wide temperature range, unlike fluorescent
Energy Savings Comparison
Annual Operating Cost
Light Source Wattage Lifespan Hrs./Yrs*. Annual Energy Use + Maintenance @.13k/KW-H
HID 175 24k/5.4 1533 kW-H $199.29
LED 35 70k/ 16 306 kW-H $ 39.78
*Calculations assume 12hrs operation/day. Further savings are realized with reduced maintenance costs due to long
life of LEDs, drivers, and elimination of glass breakage issues.
