ORDINANCE REQUIREMENT Business Sign. (Free standing or projecting signs) Provided: a) if illuminated, no moving, flashing, blinking, color-changing or exposed, bare or uncovered neon illumination or lighting; b) the aggregate area of such signs shall not exceed 100 square feet; c) no portion of such sign shall be greater than thirty (30) feet from ground level or the eave line of the roof of the main building located on the premises upon which such sign is erected, whichever is greater; d) no more than two (2) freestanding signs on any one lot or f:rmises; e) no more than three (3) projecting signs. STAFF COMMENT The applicant received from the Board their consent to be reheard on his orginial variance application to allow for an aggregate area exception to his free standing signs. The applicant has researched his options and costs in meeting the County ordinance and advocated a hardship. If the Board chooses to grant the variance on aggregate area, the staff recommends the following conditions: 1) The height requirement of 30' from ground level be met; 2) The variance shall not be transferable to any new sign which General Motors or Honda may in the furture propose to erect. Our present volume of orders as well as our production capacity, indicates that approximately five months time will be required to complete the project. We advise you of this appologetically. More than fifty percent of our present orders are "No. 1 Priority" . Obviously, all cannot be produced first. We attempt to complete each in the order in which they are received. The Oldsmobile Product Sign presently installed at your facilities is a P137 model. Its dimensions are approximately 11' x 11' x 31 feet in height. At the time of its installation in early 1971 the monthly lease rate in effect for that sign was $60. 00. (The current rate for a new sign of this size would be $119. 50 per month) We regret to advise you that if it should become necessary to remove and return ship the present sign due to revised sign code enforcement the expense to Edwards Oldsmobile would approximate--$_6_,._000, 00, In addition to the above expense a new smaller product sign, such as a 9' x 9' model 28' in height, will bear a monthly lease rate of $77. 50.
