Dear Mr.Hurt:
I have been asked by the Board of Directors of
Ednam Village Owner' s Association to reply to your letter of August 15,
1979 to several of our Owners.
Your letter gave notice of a public hearing on
August 28, 1979 concerning an application by Messrs. Kessler and Wright
requesting zoning relief to install a wall sign.
Our Board of Directors wish to go on record in
support of this request for relief by Messrs. Kessler and Wright.
We shall appreciate it if you will convey our comments
to the Board of Zoning Appeals.

Proposed Variance
The applicants request relief from section 18-3-5 (B) (2) to install a
wall sign. The applicants already have a setback variance for a free-
standing sign.
Zoning Ordinance Requirements
All signs subject to the provisions in Article 18 of this Ordinance shall
conform to the regulations of Article 15A of this Ordinance except where
specifically provided for as follows:
B. Commercial Office (CO) District and General Business (B-1) District.
2. Business Signs (Wall) : One (1) wall sign in place of the
signs permitted in Number One above. Area of sign shall not
exceed one (1) square foot for each two (2) linear feet of
the front of the main structure, with a maximum area of
thirty-five (35) square feet. No portion of the wall sign
shall exceed twenty (20) feet in height above ground level
or project above the eave of the roof of the main structure.
Staff Recommendation
Staff feels the sign should be denied because the scenic highway only
allows one sign, either a free-standing or a wall sign. A variance
has been granted for a free-standing sign on Route 250. This sign
has not been installed however, the wall sign is already up. No permit
was obtained for the wall sign.

regular meeting of the Albemarle County Board of Zoning Appeals, your
application for VA-79-49 was granted. The variance allows you to install
a-wall sign in addition to a free-standing sign.
You must, however, obtain a sign permit for the wall sign now
erected at the site.
