Proposed Variance
The applicant seeks relief from section 2-3 of the Albemarle
County Zoning Ordinance to permit a structure to be installed
at 50 feet from an access easement, a variance of 25 feet.
Zoning Ordinance Requirement
All structures, as herein specifically defined, shall be located
a minimum of seventy-five(75) feet from any street, road, or
access easement.
Staff Recommendation
Due to the steep topography of the terrain and location of the
septic tank and drainfield, this is the only suitable location
that the structure could be located, therefore the staff must
reccommend approval.

Attention : Mr. Jesse R. Hurt, Deputy Zoning Administrator
Dear Jesse :
This letter is to confirm our telephone conversation of
today concerning the request by Mr. James W. Barco for
variance to the Albemarle County Zoning Ordinance.
As you described Mr. Barco ' s request he plans to build
a cottage on the left of the driveway to his house, just
past the last switchback. It is necessary for this variance
to enable him to install his septic system.
Knowing well the topography of the land on that specific.
site, it is my opinion that this variance should be granted
It is further my opinion that far more environmental damage
might be done if this proposed cottage were built without
this variance being granted.
If we can be of any further assistance please do not
hesitate to call.
