Market Street Charlottesville, Va. 22901 RE : VA-80-27 Dear Mr. Hurt : Sign Variance for Klockner Pentaplast I am writing this letter as I have a scheduling conflict for the July 8th hearing of Klockner Pentaplast ' s request for a locational sign and am not sure I can be there by 3 : 00 P . M. to speak personally. It has come to my attention from a great many sources that there is a severe problem in locating Klockner Pentaplast unless one is familiar with the facility. Most people, as I did myself, miss the turn onto Klockner Road on the first visit to the plant . It then becomes somewhat of a safety problem in trying to find a reasonable location to turn around. I personally, have seen people stop and back up on Route 231 causing, what I consider, a real hazzard. As I understand it, Klocker has by right , the ability to add multiple location signs showing their entrance . Yet, it seems to me to be more in line with the natural and historic beauty of the Keswick Road to allow one variance closer to the road than to locate multiple signs (with shades of the old Burma Shave signs) up and down one of the most beautiful highways in Virginia. Zoning Ordinance Requirements All structures, except signs advertising sale or rent of the property, shall be located thirty (30) feet or more from any street right-of-way. Staff Recommendations For proper sight distance and safety, this sign could not be installed any further back from the right-of-way.
