Blue Ridge Computers (Wallace Frank) Tax Map: 058A2 Parcel : 20A Zoned: C-1 EXISTING ACTIVITY Computer Sales PROPOSED VARIANCE The applicant requests relief from Section 30.5.6.2. 1 of the Albemarle County Zoning Ordinance to allow a 12 square foot freestanding sign to be located five (5) feet from the highway right-of-way; a variance of 45 feet. The applicant also requests relief from Section 30.5.7. 1 to allow a 12 square foot directional sign to be located five (5) feet from the highway right-of-way; a variance of 25 feet. ZONING ORDINANCE REQUIREMENT Pursuant to Section 30.5.6.2. 1 , no buildings or structures other than necessary accessory appurtenant fences and/or walls, except as hereafter provided in the case of certain signs, shall be constructed within any SA-highways overlay district. Pursuant to Section 30.5.7. 1 , notwithstanding provisions of Section 30.5.6.2. 1 , the following types of signs, as further limited in Section 30.5.7.2, shall be permitted within fifty (50) feet of the right-of-way of the scenic highway but not within the required front yard as regulated for the underlying district: Directional sign (etc. ) STAFF RECOMMENDATIONS The physical location of the building is adjacent to the highway right-of- way. Because of the location of the building a free-standing or projecting sign would be more visible to oncoming traffic from both east and west.
