PROPOSED VARIANCE
The applicant requests relief from Section 4.15.3.2 of the Albemarle County
Zoning Ordinance to allow a two-face sign of 20 square feet aggregrate area;
a variance of 18 square feet.
ZONING ORDINANCE REQUIREMENT
Pursuant to Section 4.15.3.2, Identification Signs: Provided: (a) not
more than two (2) square feet in area; and (b) not more than (1) on any
lot or premises.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
The applicant has an existing sign that was erected prior to obtaining
an approved sign permit. The church wishes to erect a V-shape free-
standing sign so that it may be seen from both north and south traffic
directions. The staff's opinion is that the site has good visibility
and the need for additional aggregate size is not necessary. We feel
that the existing sign is adequate, and that it could be positioned
to obtain a better access to both traffic flows.

Zoning Ordinance Requirement
Pursuant to Section 4. 15.3.2, Identification Signs: Provided: (a) not

any lot or premises.
Staff Recommendation
The applicant wishes to erect a 10 square foot identification sign. The
site has more than average visibility. We feel that if the sign design
was of good taste that it would not be objectional to the adjoining
properties. A church is located on the property directly across the road
from the applicant's property.
