Also, the applicant requests relief from Section 26. 10.1 to allow sign number 4 to be located 10 feet south of Rt. 606 right-of-way, a variance of 40 feet. Also, the applicant requests relief from Section 26. 10. 1 to allow sign number 9 to be located 20 feet south of Rt. 763 right-of-way, a variance of 30 feet; and to be located 20 feet from Rt. 29 right-of-way, a variance of 30 feet. Also, the applicant requests relief from Section 26. 10. 1 to allow sign number 10 to be located 35 feet north of Austin Drive right-of-way, a variance of 15 feet. ZONING ORDINANCE REQUIREMENT Pursuant to Section 26. 10. 1, adjacent to public streets: No portion of any structure, except signs advertising sale or rental of the property, shall be erected closer than fifty (50) feet to any public street right-of-way. Pursuant to Section 4. 15.3.8, Business Signs, Freestanding or Projecting: Provided: (b) the aggregate area of such signs shall not exceed one hundred (100) square feet. Pursuant to Section 3.0, Sign, Directional: A sign, one end of which is pointed, on which an arrow is painted or otherwise indicates the direction to which attention is called, not illuminated, four (4) square feet or less in area, giving the name only of a person(s) , farm, business, or other establishment. fire' Page 2 Staff Report For General Electric Company VA-82-46 STAFF RECOMMENDATION Sign No. 1 warrants the need for setback and size because of the notification it delivers. Sign No. 4 warrants the need for setback, but find if the sign is located only 10 feet from right-of-way, then the sign area is not warranted, and it could be made smaller. Sign No. 9 - The aggregate area of this sign we feel does not warrant the setback applied for. We feel that visibility is good, and therefore the sign could be set closer to the required setback. Sign No. 10 - We feel that the setback can be met through the location of this sign and that no hardship is visible. We feel that the aggregate area of 27.5 square feet is reasonable because the property size and the access from both Rt. 29 north and Rt. 763. She pointed out the following matters with respect to our application which I have told her to handle and treat as modifications to the application. They are as follows: 1 . Attachment 1 to Application Reference Sign 9 . She pointed out that the drawing indicates sign number 9 is set back twenty feet from Route 29 and twenty feet from Route 763 .'' Attachment 1 to the application indicated the set-back was , 37 . feet from State Route 763. 2 . She also pointed out that both signs 1 and 4 are ' directional signs , and under the requirements of the sign ordinance may be only four square feet. Sign 1 is twelve square feet, and sign 4 is fifteen square feet. I am going to ask hurl, to add those two items to our request for variance. I have talked to Dan Sitler about this, and I am sending a copy of this letter to Bob Haenel so he will be apprised of the changes .
