Whyte Tax Map: 031A Parcel: A Zoned: C-1 Existing Activity Vacant Lot Proposed Variance The applicant requests relief from Section 21.7. 1 of the Albemarle County Zoning Ordinance to allow a freestanding information sign to be located 5 feet from the highway right-of-way, a variance of 25 feet. Zoning Ordinance Requirement Pursuant to Section 21.7. 1, Adjacent to public streets: No portion of any structure except signs advertising sale or rental of the property shall be erected closer than thirty (30) feet to any public street right-of-way. Staff Recommedation The applicant wishes to provide a community information sign. Signs that are of this type are customarily located as close to the pavement as possible. The location of this sign will be a benefit to both community residences as well as to visitors to the area.
