Albemarle County School Board (Broadus Wood School) Tax Map: 031 Parcels: lA & 2 Zoned: Rural Areas Existing Activity Elementary School Proposed Appeal The applicant requests relief from Section 4.12.6.6.2 of the Albemarle County Zoning Ordinance to allow 45 parking spaces, a variance of 42 parking spaces. Zoning Ordinance Requirement Pursuant to Section 4.12.6.6.2, Sechdule of Specific Requirements For Number of Off-Street Parking Spaces, School: One (1) space per five (5) pupils plus one (1) space per employee. Staff Comments The proposed addition to the existing school would eventually accomodate the future projected enflux of student enrollment and possible additional staff. Providing an activity area such as a gym would thus create the need for adequate parking facilities to accomodate the patrons of the activities being held. Functions being held at the school premises during and after, normal school hours would justify the need for parking under the require-f ments of the ordinance. We find that any activity with a large participation, parking would not be provided. We recommend to the Board if they wish to grant the variance, it be subject to providing for a specific designated area for overflow parking adequate to accomodate the overall participation of any activity.
