Revise the design to minimize the effect of the canopy/array on the visual character of the building and to visually integrate the proposed canopy/array with the architecture of the building. Options include but are not limited to: a.Add an architectural element that screens the canopy/array and/or integrates it with the existing building. Provide screening as appropriate to break down the scale, level and reinforce the horizontal, de- emphasize the character of the pre-engineered frame. A screening element consisting of 6" composite wood boards will wrap the perimeter on 3 sides of the structure.The composite boards will be spaced 6" apart.The screen will extend 40" below the southwest roof line and 78" below on the northeast roof line.The 6" composite boards will be parallel with the horizon and trimmed to match the 2degree slope where applicable. The screening will allow light and air into the usable space while diffusing the sight lines of the structural elements.The composite boards are proposed to be brown—"tree house" by Trex. b. Revise the colors of the structural elements of the canopy/array to distinguish it from the building, lighter than the dark color presented at the meeting. Provide a matte finish. The color of the structural frame elements has been revised to a galvanized finish.The distance from the canopy to the entry corridor is approximately 250 ft. At this distance the galvanized finish will appear silver and matte. The screening will visually minimize the structural steel and only vertical column members will be visible.A silver matte galvanized finish for the columns are differentiated from the original building while remaining un obtrusive to surrounding finishes and compatible with existing architecture. c. Reduce the height and increase the setbacks of the canopy/array to reduce visibility and visual impacts. The frame set closest to the road has been redesigned with a center column.This reduces the thickness of the horizontal structural frame.The reduction in thickness decreases the scale of the frame facing the road and minimizes the extent of screening required.These two factors provide a balance maintaining the open span of the usable space while minimizing emphasis on the structural elements of the canopy. 2. Identify on the plans and elevations the locations and sizes of all proposed equipment(inverters, etc.). The AC disconnect is included on the elevation drawings.This 1 piece of additional mechanical/electrical exterior equipment is positioned as such to be hidden by the existing stair way. NEC code requires this switch be easily and readily accessible. All other additional mechanical/electrical equipment will be contained within the interior of the building. All electrical conduits will be routed behind frame columns and will be hidden from view on the entry corridor. 3.Add the standard mechanical equipment note to the drawings. Visibility of all mechanical equipment from the Entrance Corridor shall be eliminated. Note added to elevation drawings. give Volpe Part B: Section A. Written description of proposal The new vehicle parking garage/showroom at 200 Myers Dr(Colonial Nissan) will have the top floor parking deck covered with a permanent solar array/shade canopy.The shade canopy structure will consist of 5 metallic frame sections that extend approximately 104 ft from the southwest side parking garage wall to the northeast side parking garage wall.The 5 metallic frame components will be spaced at approximately 25ft increments in the southeast to northwest direction. Yielding a foot print square footage of approximately 10,400 sq ft.The structure will be sloped to allow for optimal solar array placement.The sloped feature is accomplished by the northeast column sections being manufactured slightly taller than the south west columns.The highest point of the structure (including array thickness) will raise maximum 13'—7 & 5/8" above the current highest elevation of the existing building.The final maximum height from ground will be approximately 43'-1". The roof of the structure will be entirely covered with a solar photovoltaic array consisting of approximately 480 solar modules.The opaque array will provide electricity to the building and shading for the vehicles.The solar modules will appear a dark blue in color.The metallic frame sections will be galvanized finish.The solar array will slightly over hang the edges of the metallic structure the ensure complete coverage—approximate foot print dimensions are 105'-4" and 96'-9".The structural frame members of the canopy will be wrapped on 3 sides along the perimeter.The screening will be accomplished by 1"x6" composite boards spaced evenly at 6" apart.The boards will be parallel to the horizon and trimmed to match the array slope where applicable. On the southwest side the screening will extend 40" below the structure roof line. On the northeast side the screening will extend 78" below the roof line. Placed inside building with 1 exception: AC disconnect will be adjacent to existing equipment and hidden by existing stairs.
