Proposed Variance
The applicant requests relief from Section 30.5.7.2 (c) of the Albemarle
County Zoning Ordinance to allow a wall sign to be 45 square feet; a
variance of 36.25 square feet and also to allow applicant to have three
wall signs; a variance of two wall signs.
Zoning Ordinance Requirements
Pursuant to Section 30.5.7.2 (c) , business wall signs shall be limited to twen y
(20) feet in height above grade, thirty-five (35) square feet per single sign
face, and to one (1) sign per separate highway frontage.
Staff Comments
The business has two existing wall signs. The new sign (the third) advertises
a service for dry cleaning. There is a freestanding sign which displays Exxo .
We feel that the new wall sign does dominate the frontage of the business
structure which is not in keeping with the scenic highway general provisions.
