Thanks for the revisions,Jeremy, I will take one last look to make sure all is OK for the ARB.
There are others who review sign permits and whose sign-off you'll need. They include zoning review,
building/electrical, Service Authority, and preliminary zoning inspection. When a sign application is received for a
property in the Entrance Corridor, intake staff separate it into two. They send part to me, and the other part is routed
through all the reviewers in turn. Those reviews are in process.

Margaret -
Revised drawing attached. I adjusted the size of the Fresh Market letters to 4-3/8" (down from 4-
7/8"). The dimensions for that panel have been revised on the drawing as well. That should give us
the ample space you were looking for.
I also added the note you requested below to the electrical layout page on sheet 3.0 of the
drawings.
I do have one more question you mentioned below that this would resolve all issues identified on
your part of the review. Can you tell me what the next step in the process is? Are there others that
need to review prior to approval? Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help.
Thanks for your help!

illumination provided by the LED lights will not exceed the illumination produced by a single stroke of 30

Does this look a little better? That gives us about 3 or 4 inches of clear space on each side. If it
looks ok, I will update the drawings fully and shoot them back over to you.

1. The ARB review fee of$129 was not paid but is required. SO THEN THE TWO
FEES PREVIOUSLY PAID UPON SUBMISSION OF THE APPLICATIONS DO
NOT INCLUDE THE ARB FEE WHICH IS SEPARATE EVIDENTLY?
2. Can you confirm that the note regarding aluminum faces applies to all of the tenant
panels? YES -NOTE APPLIES TO ACAC, THE FRESH MARKET,AND ALL
FUTURE TENANT NAME PANELS.
3. A note indicates that"Albemarle Square," "ACAC," and "The Fresh Market"text is to
be black dual-color film. The "Albemarle Square"text is rendered white on the drawing. Can
you clarify? YES - THE NAME OF THE SHOPPING CENTER IS INTENDED TO BE
NON-PERFORATED WHITE-TO DISTINGUISH THE CENTER NAME FROM
THE TENANT NAMES. Also, can you confirm that the unspecified text for the other
tenant panels is to be the black dual-color film? YES -THEY WILL BE THE BLACK

Thanks, Margaret.
I will review your comments as I am looking at the sign drawing to make sure I understand all that you have
said.
It looks like we need to choose between name letter colors as shown on the drawing (white for the shopping
center name letters and dark for the tenant name letters) or introduce a choice of, for example the Fresh
Market green for their name letters, perhaps white or dark for ACAC letters, and perhaps white or dark for the
third and potential fourth tenant name letters (total of 3 different letter colors to choose from, in that example,
green, white, and dark).
I can get the name of the stone panel at the base; I thought that showed up on one or more of the
renderings, but will get it shortly.
I thank you for your support of the other aspects of the design.

Jim,
• Regarding your summary of the background colors: I agree.
• Regarding the letter colors:The letter colors could vary, but I think it would be difficult to have a different letter
color for each panel (difficult to maintain a level of compatibility and coordination), and we'd need to approve
the colors with the sign application. This would allow for some flexibility for tenants, but wouldn't necessarily
get them their standard color. You would need to choose the colors you propose to use, and we'd need to see
color samples to decide. I'm happy to review the colors if you'd like to send them along.
• Regarding fonts: I'm not so worried about the fonts. When the colors are adequately coordinated, the font can
vary from panel to panel.
• Regarding graphics: I would just change the "tenant graphics to be approved or provided" note to say, "tenant
graphics are subject to ARB review/approval".
• Also, the stone material at the base should be identified on the drawing.
As always, let me know if you have questions.

Subject: RE:Albemarle Square Entry Signs
Margaret,
Thank you for your thoughtful detailed response to the proposed entry sign designs to replace those at or
formerly at Albemarle Square. I am glad we seem to be progressing with many elements that seem to be
acceptable.
To try to simplify this for everyone, I wonder if the following reflects your guidance:
Background Colors of name panels: Leave the sign as designed, with uniform background colors for
tenant name panels, and a different color for the background of the shopping center name panel, to set it off,
as shown, per your comment #3. The 4 colors are reflective of the color scheme of the shopping center and
are all natural and soft colors. Eliminating any one color would detract from the harmony of the proposed
design, so we would like to keep them as shown on the plan.
Letter Colors: Tenants are allowed to have different colors for the storefront letters in their storefront signs.
Retailers seem to always want to have consistency between their store front signs and their road side signs, to
benefit from brand awareness and identity established through signs. The present sign design shows only two
colors for letters. Tenant name letter colors would not necessarily match any particular tenant's logo color. If
ARB guidelines prevent other shopping centers from accommodating tenant branding or logo colors, then we
would also live with that restriction obviously.
Fonts: Can we start with the fonts as presently shown, but be able to appeal for use of a 4th font for the third
anchor store when it is known? We would like for the font of the shopping center name to remain different
from the tenant name fonts, and we would like Tenant name fonts to reflect the Tenant's brand fonts if
possible, especially because it appears that we will not be able to allow them to match both name letter fonts
and name letter colors.
Graphics: We would like to be able to propose graphics only if it becomes an issue with an anchor tenant or
a potential anchor tenant's name. Can we leave it that the ARB would have to approve any particular graphics
use? That way, the ARB could ensure that graphics would "...be incorporated as an integral part of the sign and
colors should be limited to three".
Once we have your directions, we will add the landscaping to the base of the proposed sign and submit it for
final approval. We are eager to replace the Route 29 and the Rio Road signs immediately upon ARB approval.
The current sign design is attached for your convenient reference.
Thank you Margaret.

Jim,
A few thoughts:
1. The illustrated sign looks to be generally consistent with the EC Guidelines. The coordination with the colors
and materials of the shopping center is a positive feature of the design.
2. The EC Guidelines recommend a maximum of 3 colors for signs. The ARB typically sets limits on the number of
colors used in signs and expects some coordination in color among the tenant panels.
3. We have seen good results when the background color of the tenant panels is consistent, as shown in your
illustrations.
4. There may be some ability to vary the color of the letters from one tenant panel to the next, but four different
letter colors might be difficult, particularly considering there are already 4 colors proposed.A mock-up showing
the different letter colors(even if two of them are speculative for now) might be useful.
5. Letters with varying colors during the day and consistent colors at night might be an option.
6. Please consider whether or not you will ask for graphics on the tenant panels. If multiple colors are wanted for
graphics, a consistent letter color is more important. When graphics are used, they should be incorporated as an
integral part of the sign and colors should be limited to three. Illumination of graphics has been limited in many
cases.

Dear Margaret,
The Entry Signs have been redesigned and attached to this email.
Would you please look these over and let me know if they are what the ARB can approve?

I am aware that landscaping is not part of what is attached, but it wi//be 111'1.
oduced with the sign drawings for
formal submittal once we get the sign itself right.
The Fresh Market wanted to know if their name panel could incorporate the same green color as is on their
store front sign. It would be desirable from our standpoint if the ARB would permit additional colors for the
other tenant names on the signs, since ACAC and future anchor stores we would be likely to want their logo
brand colors incorporated on the new monument signs, as well. Would you please comment on that?
Thank you for looking at this at your earliest opportunity so we can move forward with the next steps.
