Tax Map: 61 Parcel: 39 Zoned: R-15 Existing Activity Vacant Proposed Variance The applicant requests relief from Section 18.3 of the Albemarle County Zoning Ordinance to allow a freestanding sign to be located 8 feet from the highway right-of-way; a variance of 17 feet. The applicant also requests relief from Section 4.15.3.5 to allow an identification sign to be 24 square feet; a variance of 22 square feet. Zoning Ordinance Requirement Pursuant to Section 18.3, any sign or structure shall be located a minimum of 25 feet from the highway right-of-way. Also, pursuant to Section 4.15.3.5, identification signs shall not exceed 2 square feet in size. Staff Comments The site has good visibility from the public road. We feel that if the Board wishes to grant the variance of the setback, the size of the sign should be proportionate to the location. The buildings are setback at the minimum 25 feet required leaving no open space beyond the required setback. A wall sign could be an alternative. EA -3 -0 Realty Industries, Incorporated P. O.
