"��°° 'i°° C/sf1TTC%/11 I C 111CTDIrTC CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE VIRGINIA MEMO TO: Mr. Jim Grady, Albemarle Zoning Department FROM: Benjamin Powell, Battalion Chief (; P DATE: August 21, 1987 RE: Variance Justification The Jefferson Country Fire Fighters Association was interested in placing a sign on Avon Street Extended at the southern entrance to the Joint Security Complex indicating the new Charlottesville-Albemarle Fire Training Center. We contacted Mr. McMahon of the Charlottesville-Albemarle Joint Security Complex about the sign and its placement. Mr, McMahon indicated that the Joint Security Complex was also considering a sign. Initially two signs were being considered, one for each center, but due to zoning restrictions one sign was designed which contained both center names. The problem is that the size of the sign required for R-.l zoning is too small no matter whether the sign is used for one center or both. The drawing indicates the smallest sign area needed to place both centers on one sign. We are asking for a variance on the sign ordinance to the sign indicated on the drawing.
