RE: ARB-2019-74: Jiffy Lube wall signs (TMP 07800-00-00-017D5)
Dear Brion,
We have received your above -referenced sign application. Your application was incomplete. We cannot
begin review until the missing information is submitted. The following items were missing from your
submittal:
1. The ARB review fee of $129. This parcel does not have a Comprehensive Sign Plan associated
with it and therefore the fee is not waived.
2. Pages 2-3 of the sign permit application, which include the checklist of required information for
signs in the Entrance Corridor for ARB review. With these pages, you will see the following
information is required on the sign drawing:
a. an indication of the sign type
b. indication of the proposed materials and colors and including the standard color
identification numbers (such as Pantone, Benjamin Moore, Acrylic, etc.)
c. indication of mounting details (and if a raceway is intended, then a note on the sign
drawing specifying that the raceway color shall match the color of the wall to which it
will be affixed)
In addition to these missing items, there is confusion between the application request (3 wall signs, non -
illuminated) and your drawing submission. Please clarify/revise the following:
1. Does this application request new channel letter signs with text ("Jiffylube") and logo (rounded
arrow) in addition to the cabinet signs that read "multicare," or is the application for the latter
only? Please clarify. If only the cabinet sign is requested, remove the channel letters from each
drawing.
2. Are the only elevations on which new signage is proposed the south, north and west? Please
revise the sign drawings to label the elevations by cardinal direction.
3. On page 2 of the sign drawings (the south elevation), the drawing shows a cabinet sign with a red
background and white text that reads "multicare," while the edited photograph shows a cabinet
sign with a white background and red text. Revise so that the drawing and photograph reflect the
same intention.
4. Your application submission contains sheets of pencil sketches. The first shows the south
elevation with a proposed logo (rounded arrow) sign, marked "sign B;" the second shows the
north elevation with a similar logo sign marked "sign C;" the third shows a diagram of the arrow
logo. Is this being proposed in addition to the cabinet sign that reads "multicare" and the channel
letter signs that read "Jiffylube" with the logo? Clarify. Only include those pages which reflect
the request at hand.
5. Your application submission also contains a sheet with a pencil sketch of a pole sign marked
"directional sign." Does this application request also include a freestanding sign? If so, the
application form will need to be amended and associated fees are required.
6. Please clarify that last four pages of the application submission, pencil sketches of the site and
building, or remove them if they are not pertinent to the request at hand.
Please re -submit your sign drawings, including the missing information. (You may email the revised
drawings to me at hmcmahon0balbemarle.org or send the copies by U.S. mail.) If the missing items are
received within 15 days of the date of this letter, we will proceed with review, and the submittal date will
be adjusted according to the date of your resubmittal. If the missing items are not received within 15 days
of the date of this letter, the application will be denied and a new fee will be required to submit a new
application.
