Dear Mr. Burgess:
We are preparing plans for an addition to Yancey
Elementary School which will include a gymnasium,
library, and support spaces. On behalf of Albemarle
County Public Schools, we are submitting an application
for a zoning variance to reduce the parking requirement.
Our calculation of parking spaces is as follows:
Teachers: 11
Aides: 5
Staff: 5
Visitors (5% of
185 students) : 9
TOTAL SPACES 30
The existing site topography and building location
relative to the road and property line present difficult
constraints to site development. Therefore, we would
request a reduction of 3 parking spaces for a total of
27. This total exceeds the two spaces per teaching
station recommended by the State Department of Education.
Event parking will take place around the bus turn-around.
Enclosed is a copy of the preliminary site plan for this
project and a completed zoning variance application.
