Re: Board of Zoning Appeals Action
VA-88-71, Tax Map 48, Parcels 19A & 18C
Dear Mr. Papenfuse:
This letter is to inform you that on October 11, 1988, during
the regular meeting of the Albemarle County Board of Zoning
Appeals, your application for VA-88-71 was granted.
This variance approval allows relief from Section 4. 12. 6. 6.2 of
the Albemarle County Zoning Ordinance to reduce the number of
off-street parking spaces for an elementary school from
the required fifty-eight (58) parking spaces to thirty (30)
parking spaces.
If you have any questions, please contact our office.
Sincerely,
Charles W. Burgess, Jr.

STAFF REPORT - VA-88-71
OWNER: Albemarle County School Board
TAX MAP/PARCEL: 48/18C & 19A
ZONING: VR (Village Residential)
LOCATION: Located on the south side of Route 20, +/- . 1
mile east of its intersection with Route 600
The applicant seeks a variance from Section 4. 12. 6. 6.2 of the
Albemarle County Zoning Ordinance, which states:
"4. 12 Off Street Parking and Loading Requirements
4 . 12. 6. 6.2 School: One space per five (5) pupils plus one
space per employee . . . . "
The applicant proposes to construct an addition to the Stony Point
Elementary School and seeks a reduction of the number of
off-street parking spaces required for the addition from the
minimum requirement of fifty-eight (58) parking spaces to
thirty (30) spaces. The applicant proposes to provide the
required parking of one (1) space per employee, but seeks a
variance to provide parking based on one (1) space per twenty (20)
pupils instead of the required one (1) space per five (5) pupils.
A similar variance was granted by the Board of Zoning Appeals
(VA-88-60) on September 13, 1988 for the proposed Crozet
Elementary School.
RECOMMENDATION
The application should be approved.
