Dear Mr. Papenfuse:
This letter is to inform you that on December 13 , 1988, during
the regular meeting of the Albemarle County Board of Zoning
Appeals, the Board ruled to grant your variance.
This variance approval allows relief from Section 4 . 12 . 6. 2 of
the Albemarle County Zoning Ordinance to reduce the number of
off-street parking spaces to be provided for a new elementary
school from one hundred sixty-nine (169) parking spaces to
eighty-four (84) parking spaces.

ACREAGE: 16.01 acres
LOCATION: On the east side of Route 742, 1 mile north of
its intersection with Route 20
The applicant seeks a variance from Section 4 . 12 . 6. 6.2 of the
Albemarle County Zoning Ordinance, which states:
"4. 12 Off Street Parking and Loading Requirements
4. 12. 6. 6.2 School: One space per five (5) pupils plus one
space per employee . . . . "
The applicant proposes to construct a new elementary school and
seeks a reduction of the number of off-street parking spaces
required from the minimum requirement of one hundred sixty-nine
(169) parking spaces to eighty-four (84) parking spaces. The
applicant proposes to provide the required parking of one (1)
space per employee, but seeks a variance to provide parking based
on one (1) space per twenty (20) pupils instead of the required
one (1) space per five (5) pupils. Similar variances were granted
by the Board of Zoning Appeals on September 13 , 1988, for the
proposed Crozet Elementary School (VA-88-60) and on October 11,
1988, for the proposed additions to Yancey Elementary School
(VA-88-70) .
RECOMMENDATION
The application should be approved.
