VA-88-92, will be heard during the public hearing by the Board
of Zoning Appeals on Tuesday, January 17, 1989, at 3 : 00 p.m. ,
Second Floor, County Office Building, 401 McIntire Road, Char-
lottesville, Virginia.

zoned RA, has made application for VA-88-92 , requesting relief
from Section 30.5.2 . 1 of the Albemarle County Zoning Ordinance, as
follows:
The applicant seeks a variance from Section 30. 5. 6. 2 . 1 of the
Albemarle County Zoning Ordinance to reduce the building
setback in the Scenic Areas-Highway Overlay District from
the required measurement of one hundred fifty (150) feet to
one hundred forty-six (146) feet.
A public hearing will be held by the Board of Zoning Appeals on

Dear Mr . Burgess : Re: Variance Request - Susan &
Werner Kappes, Jellystone
Park Campground
I am writing in support of this variance request. I live a short
distance from the campground and drive past it every day. Mr . &
Mrs. Kappes work hard to keep their property clean, neat and well
maintained . Their business is apparently growing because of the
closing of another campground near Charlottesville, and they feel
the need to expand their registration area in order to process
campers more efficiently. There is the potential for congestion
on Route 250, with campers lined up waiting to register , and they
desire to forestall such a situation .
Because the operation of the campground is their livelihood , the
Scenic Highway set-back in this area poses a hardship in the
reasonable use of their property , and this hardship is not
generally shared by other properties in the general vicinity. It
is my feeling that the granting of this variance request will in
no way be detrimental to adjacent properties. I am sure that the
owners are concerned about maintaining the character of the
district and , if given a little "breathing room," will build an
attractive addition to their existing building .
