Burgess, Jr. Commissioner of Zoning Department of Zoning Albemarle County Office Building 401 McIntire Road JO t t 19B9 Charlottesville, Virginia 22901 E courmi ALBEN4AR- - NI RE: Atlantic Coast Athletic Club (ACAC) Dear Mr. Burgess: It has recently come to the attention of our neighborhood Board that the Atlantic Coast Athletic Club is applying for a special permit allowing them to erect a 40 square foot commercial sign on property which adjoins the patio homes of Lakeview Drive. In addition, ACAC is requesting that said sign be posted one foot from their lot line. Present requirements are that the ACAC sign not exceed two square feet in size and that it be positioned 30 feet from their designated lot line. Our Association opposes ACAC's requests as follows: 1) The present ACAC sign is in keeping with the general size of other Four Seasons neighborhood signs; r m .Ln ere is no need for a larger sign as ACAC is the only commercial property within Four Seasons, easily identifiable by its present entrance sign and obvious location next to the pool; 3) We are of the opinion that their request is to obtain after-the-fact approval for their present sign, which we believe to be in violation of existing requirements (see above, 2 square feet in size and 30 feet from the lot line) . The Board requests that this letter be included for consideration at the upcoming public meeting on Tuesday, January 17th, 1989 at 3:00 p.m. Thank you. Sincerely yours, Dennis R. Wanless President Four Seasons Patio House DRW/rsw Association Vg GD 6569 FkAildedee& croTai. 22906 January 13 , 1989 Mr. Charles Burgess, Zoning Administrator Albemarle County Zoning Department 401 McIntire Road Charlottesville, VA 22901-4596 Re: VA 88-95 Dear Mr. Burgess, As an adjacent property owner to ACAC, I appreciate their need for signage and lighting. However, I request that they recognize the residential community in which they have chosen to place themselves and ask that they choose signs of a size and color scheme compatible to the existing neighborhood signs. The 'monolith' style that they are proposing does not comply with my request. Their proposal fails to mention the material or color they plan to use but I suspect that it will not be of natural stained wood as our other signs. I hope that the Board of Zoning Appeals will deny this request or somehow condition approval on a sign of a size and color compatible with the other neighborhood signs. Thank you for this opportunity to express my personal opinion. Sincerely, Janice D. Sprinkle 174114f0-4271:iji41 JAN 13 1989 J `7 1) , 44-- in 3 c--5.
