This letter is to notify you, as adjoining property owners, that Darrell
V. Maynard property described as Tax Map 61W, Parcel 01-A-9A, Zoned
C-1, has made application for VA-89-11, requesting relief from Sections
4. 15.3.6 and 21. 7. 1 of the Albemarle County Zoning Ordinance, as follows:
The applicant seeks a variance from Sections 4. 15.3.6 and 21. 7. 1
of the Albemarle County Zoning Ordinance to increase the number of
free-standing signs allowed from two (2) signs to three (3) signs
and to reduce the setback for the signs from the required measurement
of thirty (30) feet to eight (8) feet.
A public hearing will be held by the Board of Zoning Appeals on March,
14, 1989, at 3:00 p.m. , in Meeting Room #7, Second Floor, County Office

Dear Mr. Evans:
I am writing this letter to definitely oppose the rezoning request of
Darrell V. Maynard, property described as Tax Map 61W, Parcel 01-A-9A,
Zoned C-1.
I think that the county, in the past, has tried to maintain dignity
in their zoning ordinances and therefore, I feel that it is inappropriate
to have signs closer to the sidewalk or road than the required 30 feet.
It is unfortunate that I will be unable to attend the Board of Zoning
Appeals Meeting on June 13, 1989. Therefore, I offer this letter in
place of my being present, at the meeting.
Thank you, very much, for this opportunity to voice my opinion as
I am a property owner very close to the rezoning request.

Dear Mr. Evans,
I am writing to express my concerns about Mr. Maynard's request for a
sign variance on property located at the corner of Commonwealth Drive and
Greenbriar Drive. I will be unable to attend the meeting on May 9th but wish
to express my opinion on this matter.
I am opposed to Mr. Maynard's request as he is attempting to put "small
Billboards" on this property. Signs in this area should be for identification
purposes only. One sign facing Greenbriar and one sign facing Commonwealth
should be sufficient. They should also be of a reasonable size - large enough
to be read by those trying to identify the occupants of the building but
devoid of advertising. The signs presently on the property are too large and
there are too many. They are NOT in keeping with the signs of neighboring
property owners.
There are presently three freestanding signs on this property. One
(Board of Aging sign) is parallel to the street and painted on one side only.
Mr. Maynard's sign, as well as one other sign on the property,
are perpendicular to the road and painted on both sides. This, in my opinion,
is equivalent to five signs on this property now . In addition, Mr. Maynard's
sign is too close to the street. I am opposed to a change in the setback limit
unless the size of the sign is reduced and set parallel to the street.
Mr. Maynard should use Newspapers, T.V. , Radio, etc. for advertising
his business. The sign on this property should be for identification of the
building occupants only.
I hope the board denies the request for the sign variance requested by
Mr. Maynard.
