Fulton Gerke Construction Company, Inc. 3056 Berkmar Drive Charlottesville, VA 22901 Attention: Birnam Wood Homeowner's Association Review Board Dear Ms. Fulton: Pursuant to our telephone conversation on this date, I have enclosed the following proposals as home improvements to my townhouse located at 120 Blithe Court, Birnam Wood: A. Exterior Rear Deck Design Sketch and Materials List (Enclosure) : 1) The deck walls on the right and left are already erected for existing decks of residences located at #118 and #122 Blithe Court. 2) The County Building permit cost is included on materials list. 3) The upper deck will have a square area with built-in seating around a planter box. The planter box will be built out of the decking material. I plan to have a crepe myrtle planted in this box and have low exterior lighting. The stairway is 5' wide. The steps are wide for ease in climbing/decending. There will be lights on right and left sides for safety. I have seen evidence of work performed by Mr. Clark at locations in Flordon and Johnson Village. His workmanship is excellent and speaks for itself. He completes all work with careful sanding of surface. Mr. Clark can begin construction July 18th and estimates completion by August 1st. B. Landscape Proposal (Bid Enclosed) Present: - The planting area adjacent to the townhouse walkway contains no shrubs, plants, etc. Proposal: - Plant two skyrocket junipers against the house. - Plant one mugo pine in the right corner. - Enclose the planting area with retainer boards consistent with existing retainer walls in Birnam Wood. Grass (mostly weeds) covers the remaining border adjacent to the driveway and street. This area does "sport" a fire hydrant and a water meter! Proposal: — Till the grassy area. — Add top soil and mulch. — Add bedding plants consisting of begonias and geraniums for color. — Shape and prune the junipers. Note: This type of plant bed will still provide proper access to the fire hydrant and water meter. Also, future maintenance for grass cutting will be eliminated. Obviously, the existing landscaping is minimum and my intentions are to enhance my townhouse with landscaping design and color. Mr. Beebe did extensive landscaping at my previous residence located in Hollymead and does superb landscaping work. I would appreciate approval of these proposals by the Review Board and will be happy to provide additional information or answer questions. I can be reached at telephone numbers listed below.
