Roecks We, the undersigned owners of adjoining units in Block P, Section Two, Birnam Wood, do hereby support the above -referenced variance application of Alan L. and Jan E. Roecks, and we request that the Roecks be permitted to maintain the deck behind their unit Lot 5, Block P, Section Two) in its present state, without the forced removal or alteration which would be caused by a denial of their said application. We strongly believe that to require the Roecks to alter or remove their existing deck will cause senseless and unnecessary disruption and potential damage to all of our adjoining units, for the following reasons: 1. The deck serves an important function in stabilizing the steep bank at the rear of all our units. There is aprior history of flooding, ban lAee osion and water damage along this block, but no such pro e m have occurred since this deck structure was built. To alter the structure now would invite a recurrence of storm -water runoff flooding and erosion problems. 2. This area is well -settled and attractively landscaped. To force a removal or alteration of the deck structure at this time would be terribly disruptive to our neighborhood, and would create noice, dirt, soil, disturbance, const►oction traffic and landscape destruction, with absolutely no benefit to anyone. 3. The deck in its present condition is very attractive, and enhances the enjoyment and value of all the properties in the neighborhood. For the above reasons, we strongly urge the Board of Zoning Appeals to grant variance application VA-89-68. NAME Unit # NAME Unit # y
