SAMUEL MILLER AND SECTION 70 WHITE HALL DISTRICTS OAKLEIGH CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP August 17,1989 To whom it may concern: We are formally requesting the placement of two wooden free-standing signs on treated wood posts at each entrance to the "Oakleigh" property. These signs will be mounted behind the existing three foot front stone wall and positioned so that the information can be clearly read by those travelling in either direction on state route 692. While the existing sign at the outside north end of the Oakleigh property has the name "Oakleigh" in beautiful script writing, all other information on that sign is virtually impossible to read at first glance. As a local church wishing to serve the community, we have been defeating our own purpose by having the words "everyone welcome" hardly much larger than the words on this page. Repainting this sign and reapportioning the lettering will not provide enough space for proper size lettering. In addition, people coming from the south on 692 are virtually past Oakleigh before coming upon the existing sign, forcing people to turn around up the road. The proposed signs will be tastefully constructed and designed by Mr. Rudy Ramsey, a respected sign painter for many years in the community. He has recommended a background of pale cream color with dark cranberry lettering. The sign' s position behind the wall will hide the post legs and appear as if the sign is mounted on the back edge of the wall. If this proposal is accepted, the existing sign will be removed from in front of the north end of the property. Our request for two signs is based on the fact that Oakleigh has frontage with entrances at both ends. These signs would not be redundant in their usefulness because one entrance is barely visible to the other. Should you feel that the request of two signs is inappropriate, we request to be allowed to install the sign at the south end of the property and we will leave the existing sign in tact at the north end. In closing, I would just like to share that since becoming pastor of Oakleigh Fellowship two years ago, I have encountered literally dozens of people who have stated, "Oh, Oakleigh is a church? I have always wondered what that building was used for." This kind of statement means that we are not communicating a sense of welcome to the community as every church should do.
