Employees make 20 or more trips a day from one building to the other. This walkway prevents them from slipping and falling on ice, sleet and snow and all inclement weather that can cause sickness or a lifetime injury. Most of our stocking of merchan- dise is after the hours of sunset. This walkway gives them security during those hours . We would like to emphasize that this structure was NOT built there temporarily to break the law or to circumvent the law in any manner. It was done strictly for safety and security reasons given above. The walkway does not alter or change the use of either building in any way. Because of business increase, we store more merchandise, therefore creating more trips from build- ing to building. Additionally, the walkway is located further away from the roadway than either of the buildings . Please note the site layout attached. We have assured the Inspector, Mr. Jessie Hurt, that we will comply with all building codes . In conclusion, we would like to reiterate the safety factor of the walkway. We certainly would not want anyone injured, temporary or permanent. Inadvertently, with this type of situation where employees carry cases of merchandise from one structure to another in weather such as we have had recently, compounded by darkness, it is bound to happen.
