Dear Mr. Farist;
This letter is to inform you that we as A. T. Williams Oil
Company has property abutting your property on Route 29 North,
Charlottesville, VA do not have any objections to having a free
standing sign zero feet from the right-of-way from the proposed
service road.
We feel that with the right-of-way off Route 29
North service road, the requirement is unnecessary, and we
would like to see your signage at the property line.

Dear albemarle Co . Board of Zoning Appeals,
I own and operate a business right next to Automart on
U. S . 29 in Albemarle Co. , and wish to express my approval
of Automart ' s request for their zoning variance , re-
garding their sign setback distance . I understand they want
zero setback from right-of-way for their sign, and that makes
sense--especially in light of the service road that was built
specifically at Albemarle Co. s ' request and at great expense
to the involved landowners .
A sign for Automart is very much directed to attract Rt . 29
traffic and is never intended to attract "service road"
customers . With the significant distance ( 80-100 ft . ) that
Automart is presently from Rt. 29--due to the service road--
it is penalizing them twice-- to have them put in the service
road, then be required to have an additional 30 ' setback
for any sign.
It seems very unfair that businesses adjacent to the
"service road area" (Real Estate III and Express Center)
can have a 30 ft. setback from Rt . 29 while "service road
owners" will have an effective 100 ft . setback.

from Section 21.7 . 1 of the Albemarle County Zoning Ordinance, as
follows:
Applicant seeks a variance from Section 21.7 . 1 to reduce the
setback requirements from a right-of-way for a freestanding
sign from 30 feet to 0 feet, a variance of 30 feet.
A public hearing will be held by the Board of Zoning Appeals on
August 14 , 1990, at 3 : 00 p.m. , in Meeting Room #7, Second Floor,
County Office Building, 401 McIntire Road, Charlottesville,
Virginia.
