Grady Deputy Zoning Administrator 401 McIntire Road Charlottesville VA 22901-4596 Dear Mr. Grady: This letter is to request your consideration for a zoning variance for a sign for our business location at 1380 E. Rio Road. In consideration of the special commercial use permit granted us, a similar allowance to permit us to make our business known to the public in a clear and effective manner seems appropriate. At speeds of 35-45 mph, the 2 square feet allowed by the R15 will not be readable. Considering the 4-lane road and the distance required for a driver to identify our location, change lanes, and make a turning decision safely, a sign of 24 square feet seems reasonable. Our building is 150 feet from Rio Road and difficult to see, particularly eastbound. There will be a company name on the building itself (within code) but this will only be visible only from the side street. Several neighboring businesses have signs similar to what seems appropriate: Notably, Co'dwell Bankers and Squire Hill. We are commited to presenting a low-key, professional image in all of our business expressions.
