SIGN REQUEST. We request approval to emplace a single post , hanging sign on the south side of our Georgetown entrance (Appendix 1A) . It will be necessary; however, to place this sign on the street side of the asphalt due to the placement of the sidewalk and existing trees . Placement elsewhere would severely restrict visibility and nullify the principle purpose of the sign - identification of the street address and entrance . The sign itself will be 32" x 24" and painted in colors similar to the building trim - cream, off-red and black. Overall height will be less than 10 feet . See attached sketch at Appendix 1B. With regard to the actual placement of the sign we ask for a limited degree of flexibility. VDOT is presently expanding Georgetown Road at or near our entrance . While the proposed changes should not affect our entrance and setbacks there is a question regarding the existing sidewalk which presently extends across the property line near where we propose placement . The required exception should be minimal as we only ask authorization to place the sign 18" to the street side of the sidewalk approximately 2-3 feet from the existing entrance drive. JAC M. We believe that interests will be best served when we can physically verify the VDOT changes to the road, sidewalk and surrounding trees, and the effect they might have on sign placement and visibilty.
