It seems that the folks at Seal's Exxon want to have a mural painted on the back wall of their station. They contacted John Pembroke, who recently helped Bob Kirchman complete the mural on the railroad bridge, for some help in putting their ideas into color. The proposed mural can be seen at the bottom half of this page. I'm sorry it's not in color but I think you can see the concept for the mural is to portray the various well known icons of the American mad(The Whistle has learned that with any luck we may also seethe old Sinclair Dinosaur). Nowhere in the mural was there to be any direct relationship to Seals Exxon or anything they were selling. In short, the idea was to put up a mural that would would work well with the environment that surrounded it in this case a service station. Think how nice it will be coming than the bare white wall. So with design in hand,John went down to countyhee stop t officesn to be e td o what, colorful mural rather had to be done. After all,John reasoned this was a work of an,something that would enhance not only the service station but Crozet in general. It seems however that Albemarle County views the painting of a if anything, had other than a solid color, as a form of advertisement. The Whistle has learned that despite all the bureaucracy, the mural,or anything idea of the mural is still moving forward but the proposed mural may have to be changed to satisfy county regulations.. The CCA has sent a letter to the county officials supporting the mural and hopes to someday soon see John at work. 411/4 — 14111111:8 : ..:,::-..iiiii,,--i.i:,, all -®® litgrMilitala _ _ __ }}@gg,, OF:f:Fj• •l.7 y, ^y I ill a 4 Crozet Community Association P.O. After reviewing the preliminary drawing it is the position of our organization that the mural would be a positive addition to the downtown area of Crozet. The mural location will add a welcome splash of color and artistic flair for all those entering our town to enjoy. As you may know, the Crozet Community Association recently completed a mural on the railroad bridge which is adjacent to Seals Exxon. Crozet is the home to many of the finest artists in Albemarle County and the mural would be one more example of our exceptional local talent.
