w BASEFLOWV ASSUMED TO BE +- 2"-3" OVER SPILLWAY BASED ON SITE OBSERVATIONS. BASED ON A
1.5%SLOPE OF THE FEEDING STREAM CHANNEL, RAISING THE POND WATER SURFACE BY 1.5' IS
EXPECTED TO INIIPACT APPROXIMATELY 100 FEET OF STREAM CHANNEL. NO MITIGATION IS REQUIRED.
UTFALL STATEMENT
THE NEW POND OVERLAND SPILLWAY WEIR AND EXIT CHANNEL CONNECTS
TO THE EXISTING SPILLWAY CHANNEL THAT HAS BEEN CUT INTO ROCK.
REFER TO SECTION B-B ON SHEET4 FOR DETAILS AND CALCULATIONS.
COMPUTATIONS ON SHEET 4 INDICATE THE ADEQUACY OF THE EXISTING
CHANNEL TO CONVEY THE 2, 10 AND 100-YEAR STORM FLOWS. SINCE THE
SPILLWAY HAS EXISTING ROCK ASA LINER AND NO INCREASE IN
STORMWATER RUNOFF IS ANTICIPATED, NO ADDITIONAL LINING IS
REQUIRED AND NO SIGNIFICANT EROSION OF THE CHANNEL IS
ANTICIPATED.
THE EXISTING SPILLWAY CHANNEL FLOWS PARALLEL TO THE RIGHT -SIDE
A 1 F
EMBANKMENT FILL LINE AND FLOWS TOWARDS THE SOUTHEAST
BEGINNING AT A POINT APPROXiNIATELY 40 FEET FROM THE
DOWNSTREAM EMBANKMENT TOE OF SLOPE. VISUAL INSPECTION
INDICATES A WELL -STABILIZED NATURAL OUTFAL L CHANNEL FROM THAT
POINT DOWNSTREAM. SINCE THERE WILL BE NO INCREASE IN
STORMWATrER RUNOFF FOLLOWING THIS DEVELOPMENT, NO ADDITIONAL
ANALYSIS Of THE. DOWNSTREAM CHANNEL IS REQUIRED.
IN THE EVENT OF A 100-YEAR STORM, THERE WILL BE AT LEAST ONE FOOT
OF FREEBOARD FROM THE POND WATER SURFACE ELEVATION AND THE
TOP OF DAIM. THE EXISTING SPILLWAY CHANNEL IS ADEQUATE TO CONVEY
THE 100-YEAAR STORM WITHIN ITS BANKS. NO ADVERSE IMPACTS TO
DOWNSTREAM PROPERTIES ARE ANTICIPATED.

POND DRAINS APPROXIMATELY 3100-ACRES OF UPSTREAM DRAINAGE AREA. THE DAM IS NOT REGULATED BY DCR SINCE THE .DAM
HEIGHT IS UNDER 25 FEET. THE DAM MAINTENANCE WORK WILL INCLUDE RAISING THE DAM BY APPROXIMATELY 18" AND
RE -GRADING THE DOWNSTREAM EMBANKIVIENT TO 3HAV. THE APPROXIMATE 1,400 CY OF FILL NEEDED FOR THE DAM
MAINTENANCE WORK WILL BE TAKEN FROM AN ONSITE BORROW AREA LOCATED ADJACENT TO AND NORTH OF THE DAM. THE
EXISTING 4" PRINCIPAL SPILLWAY IS NOT OPERATIONAL AND WILL BE ABANDONED IN PLACE, AND FLOW FROM THE POND WILL
BE CONTROLLED BY WAY OF A NEW COMBINED PRINOPAL/Eh/IERGENCY OVERLAND SPILLWAY. A VIRGINIA EROSION AND
SEDIMENT CONTROL PROGRAM (VESCP) PERMIT IS REQUIRED FOR THE WORTS SINCE THE DISTURBED AREA WIL BE GREATER THAN
1 ACRE. THE WORK IS EXEMPT FROM THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE VIRGINIA STORMWATER MANAGEMENT PROGRAM PERMIT
REQUIREMENTS OF 17-303 (G) OF THE ALBEMARLE COUNTY CODE. ALBEMARLE COUNTY IS A VSMP AUTHORITY.
EXISTING CONDITIONS
THE PROPERTY IS CURRENTLY DEVELOPED WITH A SINGLE-FAMILY DWELLING AND IS LOCATED IN THE RURAL AREA OF
ALBEMARLE COUNTY. THE SITE IS WOODED WITH A CLEARED AREA FOR THE HOUSE, YARD AND POND. WITHIN THE PROPOSED
PROJECT AREA, THE SITE IS MOSTLY CLEARED, WITH SOME TREES IN LOCATIONS AS SHOWN ON THE EXISTING CONDITIONS PLAN,
FLOW FROM THE SITE GENERALLY FLOWS TOWARDS THE EXISTING POND, AND THE OU9TFAILL FOR THE POND FLOWS TO THE
SOUTHEAST TO AN EXISTING STREAM.
ADJACENT AREAS
THE SITE IS BORDERED BY ADJACENT RURAL PROPERTY ON ALL SIDES.
SOIL DESCRIPTIONS
THE DAM AND BORROW AREA ARE CHARACTERIZED BY 36D AND 37D3 (HAYESVILLE) SOILS PER THE MRCS ;OILS REPORT. THE
HAYESVILLE SOILS BELONG TO THE B HYDROLOGIC SOILS GROUP AND APPEAR TO BE SUITABLE FOR DAM FILL MATERIAL, THE
CONTRACTOR SHALL ENSURE THAT ANY EXCAVATED (MATERIALS USED TO FLATTEN THE POND EMBANKMENT MAY BE PROPERLY
