Additionally, after receiving your email I discussed this element with Engineering and they do not feel it is increasing safety concerns. Please disregard comment#12.The other review comments still stand. However, we will not be able to satisfy the request for a 5' sidewalk for several reasons stated below: 1. If the handicap parking is where originally intended (see diagram attached),the sidewalk does not assist handicap visitors. Please see in the diagram how the handicap path is intended to work. 2. A concrete sidewalk placed randomly between the addition and parking does not work with the aesthetic and function of the proposed design (to the ARB).This is impermeable paving, and makes a negative impact in rain water absorption. This area is intended to be an overflow area for roof runoff and collection, so that the site only makes a positive impact in our watershed. 3.The sidewalk encroaches on 5'+of the proposed addition to the building, that is only 900 square feet to begin with. This impacts our slab, our foundation plan, the placement of our footings, and our interior columns. We have spent thousands of dollars working with structural engineers and contractors to get the building to the precise dimensions that it is. As I remember from our meeting, this sidewalk was thought to be obsolete. The consensus between you all and VDOT was that the parking area down the side of the building that is shared with the neighbor RE LEE,allowed for visitors to walk behind the cars, and an added concrete strip that terminated into the building did not benefit the visitors, the aesthetics of the design, or the function of the landscape. To suggest adding this element at this point in the process is very discouraging, as both the building and the landscape design are deliberately integrated to only make a positive impact in Charlottesville built landscape. 1 Please respond ASAP.
