Dear Mr. Wentland:
The Department of Transportation, Charlottesville Residency Transportation and Land Use
Section, has reviewed the above referenced plan as submitted by Townes Site Engineering,
revised 17 May 2019, and finds it to be generally acceptable. If further information is desired,
please contact Justin Deel at 434-422-9894.
Note that, prior to acceptance, the Culpeper District Structure & Bridge Section must approve
plans and geotechnical report for the proposed double -box culvert and pedestrian tunnel.
However, we do not recommend construction of these structures until approval is granted.
Comments concerning the provided preliminary geotechnical report have been provided via
email.
As stated in our previous review letter, the pedestrian tunnel is not eligible for VDOT
maintenance, and a maintenance agreement with the County of Albemarle must be in place for
this structure prior to road acceptance.
Also note that all inventoried structures, such as the proposed double -box culvert, with utility
crossings will not be approved unless a maintenance agreement with the County of Albemarle is
obtained in order to offset relocation of utility costs associated with maintenance of the culvert.
A VDOT Land Use Permit will be required prior to any work within the right-of-way. The
owner/developer must contact the Charlottesville Residency Transportation and Land Use
Section at (434) 422-9399 for information pertaining to this process.
