GENERAL NOTES
1. THE ABBREVIATION V.D.O.T. MADE HEREAFTER REFERS TO THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION. THE
TERM COUNTY REFERS TO THE COUNTY OF ALBEMARLE, VIRGINIA.
2, PRIOR TO COMMENCEMENT OF ANY CONSTRUCTION WITHIN ANY EXISTING PUBLIC RIGHT-OF-WAY, INCLUDING
CONNECTION TO ANY EXISTING ROAD, A PERMIT FOR SAID CONSTRUCTION SHALL BE OBTAINED FROM V.D.O.T.
3. ALL PAVING AND DRAINAGE RELATED MATERIALS AND CONSTRUCTION METHODS SHALL CONFORM TO CURRENT
SPECIFICATIONS AND STANDARDS OF V.D.O.T. UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED.
4. EROSION AND SILTATION CONTROL MEASURES SHALL BE PROVIDED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE APPROVED
EROSION CONTROL PLAN AND SHALL BE INSTALLED PRIOR TO ANY CLEARING, GRADING OR OTHER CONSTRUCTION.
5. ALL SLOPES AND DISTURBED AREAS SHALL BE FERTILIZED, SEEDED AND MULCHED. MAXIMUM ALLOWABLE FILL OR
CUT SLOPE IS 2:1. WHERE REASONABLY OBTAINABLE LESSER SLOPES OF 4:1 OR BETTER ARE TO BE ACHIEVED.
6. ALL DRAINAGE'.NLETS SHALL HAVE A 2-INCH LOCAL DEPRESSION.
7. PAVED OR RIP -RAP LINED DITCH MAY BE REQUIRED WHEN IN THE OPINION OF THE DIRECTOR OF ENGINEERING, OR
HIS DESIGNEE, IT IS DEEMED NECESSARY IN ORDER TO STABILIZE A DRAINAGE CHANNEL.
8. ALL TRAFFIC CONTROL SIGNS SHALL CONFORM WITH THE VIRGINIA MANUAL FOR UNIFORM TRAFFIC CONTROL
DEVICES, LATEST EDITION.
9. UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED ALL CONCRETE PIrE SHALL BE REINFORCED CONCRETE PIPE - CLASS 111.
10, ALL EXCAVATION FOR UNDERGROUND PIPE INSTALLATION MUST COMPLY WITH OSHA STANDARDS FOR THE
CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY (29 CFR PART 1926).
11. THE OWNER AND/OR CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR OBTAINING ALL NECESSARY PERMITS,
INSPECTIONS, BONDS AND OTHER APPROVAL RELATED ITEMS WITH THE COUNTY OF ALBEMARLE AND VIRGINIA
DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION IN ACCORDANCE WITH LOCAL AND STATE POLICY. NO CONSTRUCTION SHALL
COMMENCE UNTIL ALL SUCH PERMITS HAVE BEEN SECURED.
12. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL VERIFY THE PROPOSED LAYOUT WITH ITS RELATIONSHIP TO THE EXISTING SITE SURVEY.
THE CONTRACTOR SHALL ALSO VERIFY ALL DIMENSIONS, SITE CONDITIONS, AND MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONS AND
SHALL! ;OTIFY THE OWNER AND ENGINEER OF ANY ERRORS, OMISSIONS OR DISCREPANCIES BEFORE COMMENCING
OR PROCEEDING WITH WORK.
13. METHODS AND MATERIALS USED IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF SITE IMPROVEMENTS FOR THIS PROJECT SHALL
CONFORM TO TEE CURRENT CONSTRUCTION STANDARDS AND SPECIFICATIONS OF THE COUNTY OF ALBEMARLE, THE
ALBEMARLE COJNTY SERVICE AUTHORITY AND/OR THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATI�N, WHICHEVER

14. DEVIATIONS OR CHANGES FROM THESE PLANS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED UNLESS APPROVED BY THE
ENGINEER/OWNER AND COUNTY OF ALBEMARLE, ALBEMARLE COUNTY SERVICE AUTHORITY AND/OR THE VIRGINIA
DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION AS APPLICABLE.
15, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR SUPPLYING ALL UTILITY COMPANIES WITH COPIES OF PLANS THAT
HAVE BEEN APPROVED AND ADVISING THEM THAT ALL GRADING SHALL CONFORM.TO THE APPROVED PLANS, AND
FURTHER THAT THE UTILITY COMPANIES SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR HONORING THESE PLANS AND THE FINISHED
GRADES IN THE INSTALLATION OF THEIR UTILITY LINES.
16. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL MAKE EXPLORATORY EXCAVATIONS AND LOCATE EXISTING UTILITIES SUFFICIENTLY
AHEAD OF CONSTRUCTION TO PERMIT REVISIONS TO PLANS IF NECESSARY. THE EXISTENCE AND LOCATION OF
UTILITIES SHOWN ON THESE PLANS MAY BE ONLY APPROXIMATELY CORRECT AND THE CONTRACTOR IS REQUIRED
TO TAKE PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES TO PROTECT THE UTILITIES SHOWN HEREON AND ANY OTHER EXISTING

18. ELECTRICAL, TELEPHONE, AND CABLE TV SERVICE TO BE ENGINEERED BY VIRGINIA POWER COMPANY, CENTEL,
AND JEFFERSON CABLE RESPECTIVELY.
19. AN APPROVED SET OF PLANS AND ALL APPLICABLE PERMITS MUST BE AVAILABLE AT THE CONSTRUCTION SITE.
20. BEFORE BURNING, BLASTING, OR TRANSPORTATION OR STORAGE OF EXPLOSIVES, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL
OBTAIN ALL REQUIRED PERMITS.
21. CONTRACTOR AGREES THAT HE SHALL ASSUME SOLE AND COMPLETE RESPONSIBILITY FOR JOB SITE CONDITIONS
DURING THE COURSE OF CONSTRUCTION OF THIS PROJECT, INCLUDING SAFETY OF ALL PERSONS AND PROPERTY;
THAT THIS REQUIREMENT SHALL APPLY CONTINUOUSLY AND NOT BE LIMITED TO NORMAL WORKING HOURS; AND
THAT THE CONTRACTOR SHALL DEFEND, INDEMNIFY AND HOLD THE OWNER AND THE ENGINEER HARMLESS FROM
ANY AND ALL LIABILITY, REAL AND ALLEGED, IN CONNECTION WITH THE PERFORMANCE OF WORK ON THIS PROJECT,
EXCEPTING FOR LIABILITY ARISING FROM 'THE SOLE NEGLIGENCE OF THE OWNER OR THE ENGINEER."
WATER & SEWER NOTES
1. WORK SHALL BE SUBJECT TO INSPECTION BY ALBEMARLE COUNTY SERVICE AUTHORITY INSPECTORS. THE
CONTRACTOR WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR NOTIFYING THE PROPER SERVICE AUTHORITY OFFICIALS AT THE START
OF WORK.
2. ALL MATERIALS AND CONSTRUCTION SHALL COMPLY WITH GENERAL WATER AND SEWER CONSTRUCTION
SPECIFICATIONS AS ADOPTED BY THE ALBEMARLE COUNTY SERVICE AUTHORITY ON JANUARY 20, 1983, AS
AMENDED FEBRUAPY21, 1985.
3. ALL WATER AND SEWER LINES SHALL HAVE A THREE FOOT MINIMUM COVER OVER THE CENTERLINE OF THE PIPE.
