GENERAL CONSTRUCTION NOTES:
1. PRIOR TO ANY CONSTRUCTION WITHIN ANY EXISTING PUBLIC
RIGHT-OF-WAY, INCLUDING CONNECTION TO ANY EXISTING ROAD, A
PERMIT SHALL BE OBTAINED FROM THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF

SHALL BE PREPARED IN ACCORDANCE TO SECTION 305 OF THE VDOT ROAD AND BRIDGE SPECIFICATIONS
MANUAL.
WHERE UNSUITABLE FILL IS ENCOUNTERED (I.E. IF SUBGRADE DEFLECTS EXCESSIVELY OR 'PUMPS' DURING
PROOF -ROLLING OPERATIONS), THE UNSUITABLE FILL SHALL BE EXCAVATED, REMOVED FROM SITE IN A LAWFUL
MANNER, AND REPLACED WITH SUITABLE FILL.
ALL PIPE BEDDING/BACKFILL AND SUBGRADES SHALL CONSIST OF SELECT/SUITABLE MATERIALTO THE FULL
SPECIFIED DEPTH. IF A CONFLICT EXISTS BETWEEN PLAN, DETAIL, AND/OR REFERENCED GOVERNING
STANDARDS, THE MOST STRINGENT SHALL APPLY.
ALL PIPE BEDDING/BACKFILL AND SUBGRADE MATERIAL SHALL BE COMPACTED TO NINETY-FIVE PERCENT (95%)
MAXIMUM DENSITY AT PLUS OR MINUS TWENTY PERCENT (20%) OF THE MATERIAL'S EXHIBITED OPTIMUM
MOISTURE CONTENT.
